Doctor:Please proceed with your query
User:My wife is having cough from past few days...around 10 days
User:it's kind of dry cough and it's consistent, bad at night when asleep
User:we visited a doctor yesterday and he did some initial tests with no findings
User:he recommended linctus codine as a cough supressant
User:i was going through the side effects of the medicine and found that breast feeding mothers should avoid it
User:i have daughter who is 8 months old and is on mothers milk
User:please recommend
Doctor:Sure, I will suggest you on this
Doctor:May I know your wife's age?
User:29 years
Doctor:Thank you
Doctor:Linctus codeine is not to be given in pregnancy
User:oh k
User:what about now?
Doctor:In breastfeeding mothers, short term use can be approved if the cough is disturbing
Doctor:And the baby is 8 months old now
Doctor:In my opinion the benefit from the medicine is more than the risks
User:is it safe...coz the doctor i visited was also planning to recommend some antibiotics to which we refused as one of the paeditrician warned us not to go for anitbiotics for mother until very necessary
Doctor:She should go ahead and take the medicine for a short term like 4 to 5 days
Doctor:I do not think antibiotic is necessary in her
Doctor:As you said her cough is more dry kind
Doctor:It is more in night
Doctor:It seems like an allergic response to change in the weather
User:yes...we were using ascoril expectorant earlier
Doctor:Linctus codeine is fine for her
User:yes weather can be a culprit too
User:coz we travelled recently
Doctor:Ascoril is used in productive cough
Doctor:You can give her Linctus codeine but for short term
User:ok then i will go ahead with the linctus codeine medication
User:and what about the dosage
Doctor:Supportive measures will help in faster recovery
User:supportive measures like
Doctor:Drinking warm ginger milk with a pinch of turmeric in it
Doctor:Herbal tea
Doctor:Drinking warm water always
Doctor:Avoid refrigerated food
Doctor:ice creams, cold drinks, banana
Doctor:Keep herself warm, well covered with warm clothes
Doctor:Dosage of 30 mg three times a day is fine
Doctor:Please check the content according to the ml and give the syrup accordingly
User:ok...and i believe she can continue with the breast feeding...or should we stop for the time being
Doctor:No, there is no reason to stop the breastfeeding
Doctor:Please ask her to continue it
User:sure...thanks for time and helpXXXXXX
Doctor:Pleasure is mine
User:i will leave the chat window now.
Doctor:Have a great day ahead
User:same to you...
