Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :
How can i help you?
User :   I have been experiencing significant gastric symptoms including belching, pressure in the sternum, stomach distention and burning pain in the lower stomach.
Doctor :
Doctor :
it is gastritis
Doctor :
are you on any medications?
User :   yes, protonix,
Doctor :
from how many days?
User :   i had an endoscopy and colonoscopy the other day and it revealed two small adenomas and a benign polyp in the stomach
Doctor :   was biopsy of the adenoma polyp taken?

Doctor :   Hi
User :   yes, the adenomas were removed. they were small and according to my gastroenterologist were not reason for any concern because it would take years for them to become malignant. The Stomach polyp was no problem.
Doctor :
Doctor :   colonoscopy was normal i suppose?
User :   However, I am concerned because i have a significan family history of gastric cancer in my family on both my maternal and paternal side of the family and am concerned that my symptoms
Doctor :
User :   ... that my symptoms may imply a small bowel cancer!
Doctor :   you have a family history of gastric cancer
User :   Yes as I noted above.
Doctor :   it means you have the risk of developing it more than the general public
Doctor :
so you need to be more cautious
Doctor :   you have these symptoms from how many days?
User :   for approximately eight days although I have a long history of GERD
Doctor :   Presence of GERD is also a risk factor for the lower esophageal cancer
User :   Yes. However, the doctor only found the presence of mild gastritis and no evidence of any significant esophageal damage. My major concern is that the fact I had two adenoma polyps that perhaps I have cancer in the small bowel. As you know it is very difficult to diagnose cancer of the small bowel because the symptoms are elusive and the diagnostic interventions not very good at determining its presence.
Doctor :   the polyps are taken for histopathology where they study for the presence or absence of the cancer
Doctor :   so this is very much the gold standard test

User :   yes, and they were found not to be cancerous. HOWEVER, as I mentioned above I am concerned that there may be cancer in the small bowel. Do you agree?
Doctor :   no it is not like that

Doctor :
the presence of polyp in stomach or you suffering from gerd does not put you to increased risk of small bowel cancer
User :   What about the adenomas in the colon?
Doctor :
are they present in you?
Doctor :
did colonoscopy say anything in this regard?
User :   As mentioned above they were removed from the colon and found not to be cancerous.
Doctor :   you have mentioned polyp and adenoma was present in stomach

Doctor :   was it in stomach or colon?
User :   the polyp in the stomach was benign. The two polyps in the colon were adenomas
Doctor :
Doctor :   than not to worry
Doctor :
as benign are quite common
User :   However, do my symptoms (ie, belching, stomach distention and bloating, pressure in the substernum) mean that I have gastritis OR is it necessary for me to have further testing to rule out cancer of the small intestines?
Doctor :   it is very clearly the symptoms of gastritis and hyper acidity
User :   I hope that you are correct because my two grandmothers and grandfather died of gastric cancers.
Doctor :   so you need not go for the further testing of cancer as the endoscopic biopsy is the gold standard test
Doctor :   and it has become negative at present
Doctor :
since you have a family history
Doctor :
you need to be more cautious
User :   However, the endoscopy and colonoscopy cannot examine the small intestine
Doctor :   as such there is no symptom indicating for the small bowel eveulation

User :   I hope that you are correct.
User :   What causes the feelings of stomach bloating and distention and burning in the lower abdomen?
Doctor :   it is the hyper acidity causing damage to mucosa of the stomach

User :   So I shouldn't be alarmed regarding these symptoms? As you notice I am quite concerned.
Doctor :
need not
Doctor :   you need to concentrate on the preventive check up or screening for gastric cancer
User :   BTW, what is your medical speciality?
Doctor :   please fill the feed back form
Doctor :   I am a General Practitioner

Doctor :   is there any thing else i can help you with

User :   Thank you very much.
Doctor :
