User:Hi Doctor
Doctor:Welcome to XXXXXXX ,
User:have some queries about my son
Doctor:Sure, please proceed
User:remember I told you he was undergoing rehab
Doctor:yes, i remember his whole history
User:after which he fell and had a fracture on right hand elbow which was under rehab
User:6 weeks of plaster
User:and now its open .. though things are fine .. fracture has gone but his hand is stiff
User:will it effect his rehab
User:how much time it will take for his hand to get normal for rehab
Doctor:no, the elbow fracture once healed in normal fashion, will not cause any change in his recovery due to the head injury
Doctor:but, he may not be able to move it a bit, if he is having slight pain
User:ok another thing is his leg ankle is not putting up much from begining
User:it is very weak
User:his leg has improved a lot
User:except the ankle part
User:does it normally takes time or it will remain like this only
Doctor:is he able to move it normally ?
Doctor:is he able to bear weight on it ?
User:leg he is able to move
User:but strength is very less in ankle .. its there .. I mean its not dead but very weak
Doctor:most injuries, which are , not associated with permanent nerve injury, will recover to near normal levels
Doctor:weakness is ok, and it will surely improve with time
Doctor:if he is not able to move it , at all, then it is a matter of concern
User:he is able to open his hand fingers and close also but again strength to hold and release things is less
User:otherwise he has movement in all parts
Doctor:since he just has weakness, there should be a very good amount of recovery with time
User:its not like any part he is not able to move
User:its almost 8 months of injury ,. he has come long way .. 60% recover but still 40% recovery is left
User:so how many more months are expected
Doctor:you have to keep in mind that , he had a head injury, and some residual effect, in 1-5 % may persist for some time
Doctor:but within a few months or 1-2 years, upto 95-98% of his function should come back
Doctor:he should continue his regular work as usual, and there should be no limitation in his activities , based on prior history
Doctor:the more , he is active, the more faster he will recover
User:oh .. we have got him to swimming, video games which require movement of hand and leg
Doctor:activit stimulates the nerves and muscle growth
Doctor:that is good
User:he is a active child from begining
User:his school is also getting him some extra PT exercices
User:I hope he will recover soon
User:and back to normal life
Doctor:yes, he will
Doctor:you should not try to tell him his activity is less in specific parts and all
Doctor:just do not make him feel conscious of the facts
User:ok sure
Doctor:just say, that it is normal, and he will be ok
User:sure will do
Doctor:do u have any doubts or other queries ?
User:no thats fine
User:thanks a lot doctor
User:for answering the queries
Doctor:You are welcome
Doctor:take care and have a good day
User:same to you
