User :   Hi, may I answer your
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Dr XXX here
Doctor :   Please proceed with your query
User :   Hi my 5 year old son went to our GP today and has a virus (cold) and also an ear infection for which he was given antibiotics. One ear was very red- the other ear had black wax in it so I was told to pruchase some particular drops to dissolve the wax.
Doctor :   Ok
User :   My son's hearing has been poor in the last week and a half and so has his balance- I thought he was a bit sick and then seemed to be getting better. WE were on holdidays- while we were on holidays he stuffed a small foam covering for a a near phone that you might use with an IPOD that he found on the ground into his ear- I was very worried and annoyed at him and tried to see whether it was still in his ear- he said he had pulled it out and then I could not find it but he said he had thrown it - his back had been facing me when he did all this- I did not see it all. I did not worry as I thought it was too big for him to stuff right down into his earcanal. Now I am worried that maybe the ear with the black wax in it has this little faom cover in it. I did not mention to the doctor because I really started thinking about it later. I have started my son o nthe antibiotics but have not given the ear drops as I am not sure whether it could make it worse. I can go back to see our doctor tomorrow - it is 8pm inXXXnow- but should I seek more urgen t medical attention tonight. He is quite sick - sleeping all day and not eating or drinking much - ahs a mold fever.
User :   sorry thats mild fever
Doctor :   Let me read what you have typed
User :   ok
Doctor :   Have you started the antibiotics today itself?
User :   Yes I ahve given hime one dose and will give him another dose in about 1 hour
Doctor :   Any oral medications take about 3 days to be effective and also the viral infection would make him weak.
Doctor :   Give him as much as he can eat and do not overforce him.
Doctor :   Water and fluid intake should be adequate.
Doctor :   For the ear part you start with the ear drops and the wax present will be dissolved by itself.
Doctor :   Does he have any other symptoms as sore throat, cough?
User :   yes he has a sore throat- he has had a cough this week but it has subsided
Doctor :   I will advise you to give the medications for 3 dyas and see the effect.
Doctor :   If the fever rises more than 102 give him cold water sponging.
User :   thankyou
Doctor :   If the symptoms do not subside even after 3 days then get him examined again by the treating doc
Doctor :   Also if required you may get his investigations done as hemogram and chest X ray.
Doctor :   Continue with the ear drops, they will help in dissolving the wax
Doctor :   And would help him in proper hearing
