User :   hi Doctor
User :   This is regarding my 3 years old daughter
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   I
User :   she had mild cold & cough for teh past 5-6 days but suddenly this morning she had high fever with chills
Doctor :   Ok
User :   so I took her to a pediatric after that
User :   pediatric after examning told that she has congestion but no throat infection
Doctor :   Ok
User :   might have nasal or urine infection
Doctor :   Ok
User :   so only after urine test report she will suggest antibiotics
User :   report has come but its very confusing
Doctor :   Ok
User :   and also her cough has aggrevated and she is coughing badly
Doctor :   Ok
User :   every 4 hourly she is getting fever and we are giving her MEFTAL and Crocin double dose alternatively
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Ok
User :   her urine test report says all normal and in the remarks it says leucocyte esterase : decected 1+
User :   though all other analysis says normal
Doctor :   May I know what was her urine test results?
User :   then from where they put this remarks
User :   I called her pediatric and she says repeat the routine and culture
Doctor :   Ok
User :   but I strongly think that its to do with her cold and cough
Doctor :   This is a pus cell and normally found in females, so not to worry.
User :   then pediatric told give her Augumentin antibiotics
User :   so should I give her?
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Ok
User :   so do I need to get urine culture again?
Doctor :   After going through the description provided by you, I feel she must be suffering with viral fever producing fever, cold and cough.
User :   because all other analysis like protein bacteria etc etc are within range an dnormal
Doctor :   As this is recurring even after medications, I feel you can wait for four to five days as this usually gets relieved on its own.
User :   but she is not able to sleep as she is only coughing and vomitting and not eating or drinking anything
User :   earlier she was once given azithral
Doctor :   In viral fever there are chances of viral gastritis producing vomiting, so the treatment most probably is palliative.
User :   so is azithral and augumentin given for same reason?
Doctor :   Ok
User :   OK...
Doctor :   The doctor would have advised augmentin considering secondary bacterial infection.
Doctor :   Both are broad spectrum antibiotics.
Doctor :   I suggest you to wait for 5 days atleast for the fever to reduce and give medications for fever and vomiting.
User :   but she is not eating it ok to give only medicines?
User :   what medicine should I give for vomitting?
Doctor :   Give her cold water sponge bath every four hours or when ever she has high fever.
Doctor :   You need to encourage her to have something and try to make something which she likes.
User :   ok....
Doctor :   For vomiting you can give her Ondan syp but needs to discuss with your doctor before starting on this.
User :   so I dont need to get the urine routine an dculture done again ?
User :   azithral was given 2-3 weeks back
Doctor :   You can hold back on augmentin as already you have given her azithral and this too can increase gastric irritation and vomiting.
User :   no
Doctor :   You can go ahead with it and i feel it would turn out normal.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Did she had fever then?
User :   only severe cough and conjestion...her pulmonologist prescribed that saying she might get
Doctor :   May I know then why was it prescribed?
User :   I am thouroughly confused doctor...please help
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Then you can follow the advise of your doctor.
User :   just in general...are these kids antibiotics safe ?
User :   please tell me doctor
Doctor :   Please follow these measures: User :   and urine report says no bacteria
Doctor :   Antibiotics are prescribed in suspected bacterial infections.
User :   ok
Doctor :   1. right now give her palliative treatment and wait till 5 days and see if has any improvement by 3rd day.
Doctor :   If no improvement is seen like reduce in temperature, then you would need to start on antibiotics and get her urine and culture as advised by your doctor.
Doctor :   TIll then give her sponge bath for fever and anti cold and antivomiting medications after discussing with your doctor.
User :   yes doctor
Doctor :   Did you follow my suggestions?
User :   just one last question if in next 4-5 days her fever doesnt come down then which antibiotics shoudl I give?
User :   augmentin?
Doctor :   Also give her good nutritious food she likes.
User :   she likes fish, egg, noodles, oats but she is not taking any of these as well
User :   not even orange juice or any other juice
Doctor :   Yes, you can give her augmentin as advised by your doctor.
User :   anyway I will keep trying
User :   ok
User :   ok
Doctor :   You can encourage her to have all those but make sure it less oily and non spicy.
User :   yes i give the same
Doctor :   Ask her to drink lots of fluids.
