User :   Hi, I need to know the quickest way to get rid of yellow eyes..
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Can u please explain me, what you mean by yellow eyes , Is it yellow discolration of the eye conjunctiva ?
Doctor :   Or the yellow discoloration of the skin surrounding the eye ?
User :   Yes.. In certain light I can notice a slight yellow color in the whites of my eyes. I have been a little sick with a virus the last few weeks.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   this seems that you might be having icterus , that is due to elevated bilirubin levels in the blood
Doctor :   this could be due to inflammatory involvement of the liver ,
Doctor :   the best way, to remove the yellow discoloration is to reduce the blood bilirubin levels
Doctor :   this is via using ursodiol supplements (bile acid supplements)
Doctor :   the trade name - is ursodiol
User :   Is this something I can get over the counter?? I have a job interview in 2 days and I am very worried about my appearance.
Doctor :   Sorry, This usually needs a prescription of a doctor
Doctor :   is it really that dark yellow ?
Doctor :   that is clearly visible ?
User :   O.K. Any home remedies that I can try?? I have been trying to flush my system out with tons of water..will this help?
Doctor :   yes drinking water will help
Doctor :   but, you need to understand, that bilirubin in blood can be reabsorbed only by the liver and then excreted by the bile salts into urine and stools
Doctor :   and usually within a few weeks as the inflammation of the liver subsides and the liver recovers, the icterus subsides by itself
Doctor :   have u undergone any tests of the liver, and blood ?
User :   Not in a while..I guess I am afraid of what they might find.
Doctor :   ok, i understand your situation
Doctor :   but u need to understand that , most conditions if treated early will soon resolve
Doctor :   if not diagnosed and treatment not started, soon they persist for longer time resulting in persisting symptoms and probable complications
Doctor :   you might consider getting a complete blood count and liver function tests to see the level of bilirubin levels
Doctor :   and if they are high, symptomatic medications will be very helpful
User :   Thanks..I will get checked out..for now I will continue with the water and avoid alcohol completely
Doctor :   that is very good
Doctor :   i hope your questions have been answered
User :   Yes and thank you.
Doctor :   thanks and take care
Doctor :   have a good day
Doctor :   bye for now
