User :   Mom has high blood pressure and high cholestrol. She ran out of lipitor and has not taken it in two days. The past two days her blood pressure has been really high. It lowers once she takes her blood pressure meds but it has gone as high as 200/90. This also happened a couple of months ago. She went to the er and all the test came back negative so they gave her her own meds and monitored for a couple of hours until it came down. Can not taking the lipitor raise her blood pressure?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Lt me read it
Doctor :   May I know your moms age?
Doctor :   Also her height & weight, and Since when is she Hypertensive?
User :   77 - A couple of months ago her blood pressure was not regular. She did see two cardiologist, went to two different er's and saw her pcp regularly. They all said it was due to stress she was under. She is about 5'5 and 160. It has been stable but the past couple of days it has been high but lowers when she takes her meds. Trying to decide if she should go to the er. The past two times she went all they did was give her her own meds to lower. The average er wait is about 6-8 hrs here which seems to just add to her mood and raise her bp ever higher.
Doctor :   Not taking a few doses lipitor will not result in sudden rise in BP as in this case, missing doses over a long period will result in blood cholesterol imbalance, which inturn contributes to
Doctor :   high BP
User :   Is it danergous to wait until Mon to talk to her dr if the blood pressure is high but lowers within an hour of taking meds?
Doctor :   A BP of 200/90 is high enough to pay a visit to the ER
Doctor :   Has she skipped doses of antihypertensives?
User :   No she has not missed any. Yesterday it was high also (190/90). She took her meds and re-took her pressure two hours later and it was 140/60.
Doctor :   How long dose it stay low?
Doctor :   How many tablets dose she take, hope she takes them atleast twice a day?
User :   She does take it twice a day. It usually stays low until it is about time for the next dose.
Doctor :   If you are sure that it stays low until it is about time for the next dose, then there is little to worry.
Doctor :   atleast till monday
User :   Thanks. I think maybe her dr may need to change her meds. She has been on them for awhile. Also, she has a blockage in her neck that is only 20% blocked but she gets it checked every 6 months. Next week is time for her next visit.
Doctor :   but beware, if it stays at 200 for more than a couple of hours or if it crosses 200
Doctor :   then it could be dangerous
User :   Her last trip to the er was because it went as high as 240. They can not seem to find out the problem and discharged her and told her to follow with her pcp. I will check with her in an hour to be sure it has come down.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   No. Thanks for all your help.
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me. Bye for now. Please refer your friends to our service.
