User :   I have an epistaxis in the morning and have a long haul flight, can I make or should postpone my trip?

Doctor :   do you have any other medical condition ?
User :   no
Doctor :   high blood pressure ?
Doctor :   and can you tell me about the episode ?
User :   No history for high BP
User :   I used to have those episode since i was at high school (could be 1 or even 4 per year)
User :   In the morning while washing my face I found blood coming from my nose
Doctor :   ok and how long do they last ?
Doctor :   how much was the blood coming out ?
User :   Too many
User :   blood
User :   I used to do some first aid, like closing the nose while keeping my head in downward position
Doctor :   and how long is your flight ?
User :   7 hours, flying to Europe
User :   sorry 9 hours
Doctor :   and this bleed you just had , it happened after how many days ?
User :   you mean from the last episode?
Doctor :   do you have any respiratory track infection ?

Doctor :   ok well you can fly thats ok, it should not be a problem

User :   yes, i used Ethamsylate
Doctor :   ok before you flight i would like you to do the following
Doctor :   1) rest with head elevated at 30 to 45 degrees
Doctor :   2) Do not blow your nose or put anything into it. If you have to sneeze, open your mouth so that the air will escape out the mouth and not through the nose.
Doctor :   3) Do not strain during bowel movements
Doctor :   4) Do not strain or bend down to lift anything heavy.
Doctor :   5) Stay on a soft, cool diet. No hot liquids for at least 24 hours.
Doctor :   6) Do not take any medications that will thin the blood esp aspirin
Doctor :   thats all you will be fine
Doctor :   also remember The most common cause of a nose bleeds is drying of the nasal membranes. If you are prone to recurrent nosebleeds, it is often helpful to try lubricating the nose with an ointment of some type. This can be applied gently with a Q-tip or your fingertip up inside the nose, especially on the middle portion (the septum)
