User :   I am a fitness/yoga instructor who spends a significant amount of time in inversions (particularly handstands). About 6 months ago I noticed my superficial temporal artery very enlarged while in an inversion. Tonight while in a mild inversion, this artery was SIGNIFICANTLY larger then ever. Also in the past week I have had problems with my left (same side) TMJ and the massetor and other facial muscles have been very tight. I'm wondering if this is possibly related and am unsure what to do at this point. I fear that the size of the temporal artery could be an aneurysm.
Doctor :   HI
Doctor :   I am Dr. xxxr
Doctor :   Let me read the query
User :   Also I am 26 years old and female
Doctor :   I am sorry, superficial temporal artery is hardly seen
Doctor :   It is in deed deep
Doctor :   to be seen or palpated
User :   its only WHILE in the inversion that
Doctor :   Still
Doctor :   Ok let us continue the discussion
Doctor :   about your problem
Doctor :   You have have tight facial muscles
Doctor :   that too on the left
User :   well in any case, while i am in an inversion, an artery(possibly vein) is VERY large only while i am in an inversion (head lower than heart)
User :   otherwise, when i am upright it cannot be seen at ALL
Doctor :   So you mean to say vein
Doctor :   yes it could be vein
Doctor :   Veins cannot have aneurysms
Doctor :   and benign
User :   why would it be so significantly large???
Doctor :   Aneurysms are not yet reported to be dangerous in such small arteries or veins
Doctor :   The large vein can be because of its inherent nature of it or there is an obstruction to its outflow
User :   could it have anything to do with how much time i spend inverted?? (hours a week IN handstands)
Doctor :   Not really
Doctor :   I have a primary question for you
Doctor :   Is that you observed the large vessel first or the stiffness of facial muscles first?
User :   large vessel came first but it is significantly larger since my 'flare-up' of my left TMJ
Doctor :   TMJ can cause flare ups and further aggravation of the symptoms
User :   So is it DEFINETLY a vein??
User :   left side of my face
User :   at my temple
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   Ofcourse few 'Yes' depend on the physical examination
Doctor :   But the artery cannot be palpated
Doctor :   or seen
Doctor :   at that site
User :   even when inverted?
Doctor :   yes
User :   why would it be SO significantly large?
Doctor :   I cannot say now why is it
User :   is the temporal artery to deep to ever be seen??
Doctor :   No
User :   i am perplexed by the size of this vessel and am trying to understand why it is so large
Doctor :   You should not be worried
Doctor :   IF you are too concerned and the thoughts are worrying
User :   can a vein ever be so large in size?
Doctor :   it is better to get examined by a local physician
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   In blood pressure
Doctor :   and outflow obstruction
User :   is this of any danger
Doctor :   It does not seem
