User :   Hi,
I had developed gestational diabetes during the last trimester of my first pregnancy. Now, I am 9 weeks pregnant and have FBS 105 and PPBS 142 (when last checked). The doctor has prescribes Glycomet 500. I've heard that no oral medication works for gestational diabetes. Is it true?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
Doctor :   I am Dr. XXX
User :   I am XXXhere
Doctor :   It is always to go better on Insulin
User :   My gyne has prescribed 1/2 tab twice for the first 3 days and 1 each after that. I came to know about oral medication only after she'd prescribed it
Doctor :   Not a problem
User :   Is there any negative impact of glycomet
Doctor :   Actually you can go for it
Doctor :   Importantly
Doctor :   You will need to follow a diet suggested by your doctor, exercise regularly and have frequent blood tests to check your blood sugar level.
User :   That I am already doing but the blood sugar has not shown much difference within the past 3-4 weeks since we started monitoring it
User :   So now I'm going on medication
User :   If I suggest insulin to the doctor, will it be necessary after the preg.
Doctor :   A normal blood sugar level is less than 105 mg per dL when you haven't eaten for a number of hours before the test (fasting) and less than 120 mg per dL 2 hours after a meal.
Doctor :   So you can wait now and keep taking the Glycomet
User :   OK But Glycomet is safe, right?
User :   For the baby, especially
Doctor :   YUes
Doctor :   If the Blood sugar is controlled to above levels do not worry
Doctor :   If not, then Insulin
User :   OK. The effects on the baby was my major worry. Thank you for your time and advice Dr. XXX.
User :   By the way, doctor, may I know your area of specialization
Doctor :   I am General Physician
Doctor :   You may relax
Doctor :   If the bl sugar levels are constantly below 120mg/dl
User :   Great! I was supposed to meet a physician. Thanks a ton.
User :   Bye then.
Doctor :   Please fill the feedback form
