Doctor :   how can i help you today
Doctor :   Are u there ?
User :   hi my daughter had grommets put in 6 weeks ago, she has has ongoing ear infection with alot of discharge, she has had 2 lots of antibiotics and 3 lots of drops and a spray, for the last 2 days she has had alot of bleeding frm the ear. i have been to my gp who is getting her apointment bk at the hospital
Doctor :   let me read ur query
User :   the gp said the bleeding was coming from behind the grommet from the ear drum , is this normal?
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   the bleeding is it frank blood ? or is it purulent discharge ?
User :   no its fresh bright blood ,where as b4 it was brown discharge and smelly
Doctor :   normally the grommet, is placed to drain the secretions in the middle ear
Doctor :   ok , so now the infection has subsided and the fresh bleed has occured
Doctor :   is the bleed severe ? or continuous ?
User :   continuos, when it first started there was lots, now it trickles
Doctor :   this indicates that this is stabilising and it will be fine
Doctor :   is she still on antibiotics ?
User :   ok, thankyou as was getting worried as the infectin was going from one ear to the other
User :   no,
Doctor :   since the bleed is now reduced, it will get better from now on
Doctor :   the bleeding is a result of the infection , in the ear middle cavity (chronic otitis media)
User :   thankyou, for your help as my gp has been less than helpful
Doctor :   you are most welcome
User :   so what do i do about chronc otitis media?
Doctor :   nothing, the grommet placed will drain all the discharge in the ear, and soon the ear will dry and get better
User :   thankyou
Doctor :   once the infection is cleared, a surgery to remove the grommet and tympanopasty to fix the infected ear will help
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
Doctor :   take care and bye for now
