User :   Dear Doc,
I had taken the following HIV tests,
HIV-1 Proviral DNA PCR at 23 day
HIV-1 Proviral DNA PCR at 39 Day
HIV INSTI Rapid (antibody) Test - 6 weeks
HIV INSTI Rapid test - 7 Weeks.
There is some controversy among online forums
Some say DNA PCR is conclusive after 28 days, some only rely on antibody at 12 weeks.
Considering the above tests I have taken, should I put a break to my hiv fear..
Doctor :   were your tests negative?
User :   yes sir all the tests were negative
User :   Do you administer hiv tests?
Doctor :   no we do not administer HIV tests
Doctor :   if the PCR DNA test at 39th day is negative
Doctor :   you can put your fears to rest
Doctor :   do not bother about any other thing or any further tests
User :   thanks.....
User :   I had another test scheduled tomorrow
User :   that would be 9th week test
User :   well now that you say, I dont need any test... I will cancel that... but I do have some questions
Doctor :   yes. plesae proceed
User :   I have been losing lot of weight, I lost 4 inches of waist... I used to be 32" now 28"
User :   I am not sure if I should blame stress/anxiety?
Doctor :   stress/anxiety do cause a variety of symptoms
User :   I was paranoid over this incident and took 8 tests so far....
Doctor :   weight loss is one of them
User :   given all the 8 tests are negative, it is unlikely due to hiv... what is your opinion?
Doctor :   yes, it is unlikely due to HIV especially since PCR DNA is negative.
User :   okay... thanks
Doctor :   is there anything else you would like to ask me?
User :   yes sir.. I have couple of non-hiv related questions.. if you don;t mind
Doctor :   yes please proceed
User :   I have been suffering from Anal bleeding for the last six years
User :   initially docotors thought its hemorrhoids and operated on me
User :   but that never went away..
Doctor :   ok.
Doctor :   are you on any medications for them? are following diet control?
User :   I am not on any medication
User :   I have been drinking lots and lots of water..
User :   recently, I rushed to emergency because there was lot of blood.. and there was some swelling
User :   so, they took me for colonoscopy..
Doctor :   ok. what did the results show?
User :   there was nothing wrong
User :   the surgeon told me, hemerrhoids was wrong diagnosis
User :   I dont recall but he said my conditions is something anutitus ("dont recall the exact term")
Doctor :   ok
User :   and he asked me to avoid coffee and beer
Doctor :   do you remember what explanation was given for the colonoscopy findings?
User :   I dont drink much coffee
User :   everything was normal... He showed me on the TV.. no polyps no cancer traces
User :   I used to drink lot of beer... which I stopped in the last one month
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   was the bleeding from anus a fresh bleed, or did it have altered blood?
User :   yesterday, I had a beer and it bleeds today.. do you really believe my bowel is so sensitive to beer? or is there something lying under
User :   ?
User :   what is altered blood?
Doctor :   there could be an underlying problem of severe gastritis, which gets aggravated on alcohol and caffeine intake causing mucosal damage and bleeding.
User :   I know the sign when it bleeds.. there will be irritation and very light itching
Doctor :   i meant t o ask whether the color of blood was bright red as in fresh blood or brown as in altered blood (acted upon by stomach acid)
Doctor :   ok
User :   no, it was fresh blood... I strongly believe it is from the rectum... (very near opening from inside)
Doctor :   ok
User :   the doc also showed me on TV the opening was red and irritated
Doctor :   then I would suggest a repeat colonoscopy for you to look for the site of bleed
Doctor :   and get a second opinion done for the report
Doctor :   from another gastroenterologist
Doctor :   to see what they say
User :   to your point, if it is severe gastritis, colonoscopy should find it right?
User :   the hospital I went to is the best hospital in Toronto.... they only deal with colonoscopy nothing else..
Doctor :   colonoscopy would look for causes in colon and rectum
Doctor :   for the gastritis, an endoscopy has to be done
User :   okay....
User :   if you suspect gastritis, would there be other symptoms associated with that?
Doctor :   yes, there would be other symptoms
Doctor :   like belching, sour feeling in throat, chest burning, upper stomach discomfort etc
User :   far most i remember is belching... other symptoms never occured to me
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   does the belching increase with fatty food or oily/spicy food?
Doctor :   does it increase when you take alcohol?
User :   yes it does...
Doctor :   do have any of the above mentioned symptoms after consumption of alcohol?
User :   no.. never...
User :   I sometimes have bloating stomach
Doctor :   ok
