User :   I have had a sore throat for 2.5 weeks. Tested negative for strep and mono. Very hard to swallow and talk. What could be going on?
Doctor :   are you on any medication?
Doctor :   what symptoms are you having at present?
User :   Vit D 50,000 iu 2x/wk. took zithromax for initial symptoms. all went away except the sore throat.
Doctor :   is there sputum produced still?
User :   no
Doctor :   if yes, what is the color of it?
Doctor :   is it more like dry cough?
User :   yes
Doctor :   then follow these measures
Doctor :   1) do warm salt water garling 2-3 times a day
Doctor :   2) Take Benadryl syrup, it will soothe the symptoms
Doctor :   3) home remedy with 1 spoon of honey with few drops of fresh ginger juice wil also give you good results. Do this 3-4 times a day
Doctor :   if the dry cough still persists after 3 days
Doctor :   report back to your treating doctor
Doctor :   and ask for a PFT test (pulmonary function test) to rule out a
Doctor :   cough variant asthma
Doctor :   which generally gets precipitated after a sore throat
Doctor :   and persists as dry cough most of the time
