User :   hi
Doctor :   hi
User :   ok
User :   I have a question about the liver I just got the results of my blood tests and they said 1 out of three tests indicated some inflamation on liver but the two other tests came out fine I used to drink and I cut down allot do I have reason for concern?
Doctor :   How can I help you?
User :   all my other tests were fine chlostrol and sugar levels
User :   and urine tests was good no sugar blood or infection in urine
Doctor :   You have to tell me specific tests
Doctor :   I got your problem
Doctor :   Please be patient
User :   k
User :   it was the standard tests
User :   dont recall names
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   Yes alcohol increases some enzymes
User :   what does that mean?
Doctor :   and stopping alcohol will reverse the damege
User :   is the fact my urine test came out good indicate my liver is functioning well?I used to drink allot cut down but not completely.
Doctor :   Liver is damaged by alcohol
Doctor :   AST and ALT , GGTP are some liver enzymes
Doctor :   most commonly AST and GGTP is elevated
Doctor :   The levels of enzymes indicates danage
User :   i think those were probably the tests i think ast was a bit elevated and the two others were fine
Doctor :   Also Bilirubin will be elevated in alcohol liver disease
User :   but not sure
Doctor :   You can send the report
Doctor :   So that I will review and email and give you message
User :   but i just wondered in general if it is ok
User :   and normal for someone who used to drink allot
User :   and cut back
User :   or is it rare
Doctor :   What is your question?
Doctor :   Type clearly?
User :   Basically was interested in knowing more about what alcohol does to liver and if overall im ok
User :   if the other tests were fine
Doctor :   First thing : Alcohol cause damage to liver
Doctor :   damage can be divide into 3 stages
Doctor :   beginning alcohol fatty liver
Doctor :   stage alcohol hepatitis
Doctor :   Do you follow this ?
User :   yes
Doctor :   3 severe disease
User :   ok
User :   thank you
Doctor :   These lab tests detect usually in second stage
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   The second stage is reversible if the alcohol is stopped
Doctor :   Otherwise it will cause further damage to the liver
User :   ok
User :   why would only one test be high and two be ok?
Doctor :   some tests are specific for alcohol
Doctor :   AST, GGT are specific for alcohol induced liver damage
Doctor :   Different disease affect liver . And different tests detect the reason for damage
Doctor :   So the stage 2 , called Alcoholic Hepatitis is reversible
Doctor :   In this stage , liver is inf lammed.
Doctor :   Severe inflammation presents as abdominal pain, jaundice, nausea and vomiting
Doctor :   But mild second stage just present as abnomral liver enzymes with no symptoms
User :   ok
Doctor :   So it is very important to realize the stage of liver damage
User :   i dont have much symptoms what is the difference between regular hypetaitis A,B,C and alcohol liver damage
Doctor :   Mild inflammation will not need any medicines, just abstinence from alcohol; will reverse the process/damage
Doctor :   Good Q
Doctor :   hepatitis A , B , C are infections'
Doctor :   Hep A infections is caused by drinking contaminated water
Doctor :   It is caused by hepatitis A virus
User :   ok
Doctor :   Do You follow ?
User :   yes continue
User :   follow
Doctor :   Patient present with loose motions, vomiting , jandice
User :   k
Doctor :   And The Hepatitis B is caused by Hepatitis b virus
User :   ok
Doctor :   This virus is transmitted by unprotected intercourse, intravenous drug abuse
Doctor :   presentations of disease is vague
Doctor :   it may present with severe nausea , vomiting , jandice
Doctor :   it may not present with any symptoms
User :   ok
User :   continue
Doctor :   So best bet is Do the lab test
Doctor :   Hepatiitis C is caused hep C viris
User :   ok
Doctor :   Similarly is is transmitted mostly by iv drug abuse
Doctor :   but also transmitted by unprotected intercourse
Doctor :   This will not cause jandice initially
Doctor :   So best bet is get the Hepatitis profile
User :   so the alcohol related liver damage is something different??
User :   thats what I understand is that correct?
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   the damage done is different
Doctor :   middle stages of liver damage vary according to what is the reason for damage
Doctor :   But ultimate clinical stage is one -Cirrhosis and lliver cancer
Doctor :   In cirrhosis , the liver does not function and it is completely replaced by fabrous tissue
Doctor :   That is the third stage of alcohol induced liver damage
Doctor :   Have you seen any patient with belly full of water ?
Doctor :   That is cirrhosis
Doctor :   But educating the ends of damage
Doctor :   Sorry
User :   so if my urine tests came out good no sugar,no blood, and no infections would that indicate my liver is working?
User :   no its ok
Doctor :   liver test has almost no role in liver disease
Doctor :   Do not even worry about it
Doctor :   if you have jaundice, the urine is yellow
Doctor :   urine tets detect bilirubins
Doctor :   But that is not 100 correct test
Doctor :   serum bilirubin will indicated whether you have jaundice or not?
Doctor :   100%
Doctor :   Do you have any questions ?
User :   yes a bit confuse though perhaps a bit more knowledgeable just wanted to make sure overall i am ok because the medical lingo can be intimadating
Doctor :   it would be much useful if you consult a doctor and discuss the results and next action plan.
User :   a bit scary
Doctor :   I understand
Doctor :   but better take early steps to prevent further damage
Doctor :   Better to deal with the problem rather than escaping
User :   well I actually spoke to doctor just wanted second opinion he told me overall im healthy but the only test that was a bit high was one of liver tests
Doctor :   ok
User :   he also said my red blood count is high but not dangerous he just said i have allot of blood
Doctor :   I am just giving information. But I don't know what exact test is abnormal
User :   i understand
Doctor :   But anyway management : do Hepatitis profile
Doctor :   if Hep B,C are negative
Doctor :   And if you drink alcohol, Alcohol is the cause
Doctor :   Thank you for consult
Doctor :   please leave your valuable feed back
User :   ok thanks
Doctor :   Take care
Doctor :   Bye
