User :   Hi Doctor, My son aged about 10 months getting fever since yesterday. We consulted a paediatrician and he suggested taxim-o along with meftal-p as he doubted it as viral fever. Yesterday afternoon onwards he was better. today early morning again he got high fever .. Please suggest....

Doctor :   fever in children can take 3-5days to get completely under control
Doctor :   does he have any other symptoms apart from fever?
User :   little bit coughing..
User :   we are giving him relent for it
Doctor :   ok. continue to give him the medications as prescribed by his pediatrician,
Doctor :   how many times a day are you giving him fever medication?
User :   but the fever is coming only in night times
User :   3 times
Doctor :   if fever is not getting controlled you can increase dosage/frequency to upto 4 times a day
User :   2.5ml three times
Doctor :   make him sleep with cotton cloths and avoid blanket at night, the heat needs to dissipate out of body
Doctor :   do tepid sponging if temperature is reaching 100
User :   he doesn't like blanket in we're not using it

User :   sponging at night is ok?
Doctor :   yes it is fine, do it with luke warm water atleast on forehead and armpits
Doctor :   wait for 3 days of medication to get completeed
Doctor :   if he is not better at end of 3 days
Doctor :   then he will need repeat examination by his pediatrician
User :   ok. thanks doctor. are there any specific conditions for viral..
Doctor :   viral fevers get resolved by 3-5 days, do not worry about them unless you see these signs develop: Doctor :   noise when breathing, loose stools, cough with mucus, stomach pain, vomiting, restlessness or lethargy in baby, baby refusing feeds
Doctor :   if you see any of these develop, then take him to his pediatrician
Doctor :   keep giving him water and fluids to keep him hydrated
User :   noise when breathing is coming because of phlem
User :   he vomited once two ago.. when he was coughing..
User :   he taking milk fine though..
Doctor :   ok. if it sounds like wheeze or a noise when taking breath in or when leaving out, then it may suggest lung infection
Doctor :   it will be a little harsh sound
User :   no. I think this is not that sound..

User :   any other signs we should be alert of?
Doctor :   no that would be all, keep the above sings in mind. wait and watch . he should be better by tomorrow if it is viral infection
Doctor :   if at end of 3 days he is not better, then go ahead with reexamination and change in medication dosage

User :   are there any particular tests to decide viral fever?
User :   I also underwent viral fever medication a since week..
Doctor :   no, usually there are no tests for common viral infections
Doctor :   if you had viral fever recently, then it could be the same with your too

User :   I have got blood tests done everything shows normal..

Doctor :   it suggests that liver damage is present due to infection

User :   is antibiotic enough ? or any other medication required?
Doctor :   antibiotic is enough, maintain good diet, avoid non vegetarian food for sometime including eggs
Doctor :   stick to plain bland food
Doctor :   with minimal oil and spice

User :   other than milk
Doctor :   since baby is 10 months old, you shoul dbe starting top feeds and home food
Doctor :   with common daily home food like rice, with dal , or with boiled veg
Doctor :   or cerelac or milk with homemade powder of mixed grains

Doctor :   by now your baby should have been give common home foods like rice, a little chapati, along with cerelac

Doctor :   weaning foods should be started at 6-7 months of age to build up immunity
Doctor :   mothers milk is not enough after 4 - 6 months of age.
User :   we give him cerelac and rice yogurt, dal
Doctor :   baby should get extra nutrition

Doctor :   try giving ragi porridge, rava porrigde,
Doctor :   yse you can continue same foods
Doctor :   avoid yougurt/curd
User :   He likes rice with yougurt mixed..
User :   without that he doesn't accepts rice/dal
Doctor :   he may like it, but it should be your decision to give what is good for him such that he gets proper nutrition
Doctor :   you have to break his habit else even after growing up he will not take vegetables
User :   ok..curd anyreason for discoraging?
Doctor :   it is considered as cold food, it will aggravate fever , cold and cough symptoms making medicines not to work
