User :   Over the past week I have had random pain come and go in both my arms. It doesn't feel muscular and I haven't had an injury. It started in my right arm at the elbow and shoulder and radiated throughout the whole arm. In the past two days my shoulder in my left arm gets a sharp pain every now and then. The pain is not unbearable, but I'm concerned that it might be cardiovascular. What else could this be? Could it just be anxiety or ergonomic?
I am a 26 year old male and the only history of heart disease in my family is my grandfather had a heart attack at 55 due to high cholesterol and heavy smoking. I do not smoke or drink.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   let me read
Doctor :   from when you are having the episodes of pain
User :   Just sporadically througout the day.
Doctor :   from how many days ?
User :   Today is about the 3rd or 4th day.
Doctor :   is the pain dull aching type or like electric shock kinds
User :   dull aching type
Doctor :   in the left arm how is the pain ?
User :   dull and achy. Sometimes it gets sharper if I take a deep breath, but not always
Doctor :   if you take deep breath does the pain increases ?
User :   sometimes, but the pain is not always there.
Doctor :   ok
also if you bend side ways or front does it increases ?
Doctor :   pain*
User :   No, moving doesn't change the pain.
Doctor :   apart from the pain what other symptoms do you have ?
User :   i don't have any other symptoms.
Doctor :   the achy pain in the arms which occasionally become sharper on taking deep breath and with no other symptoms do not go in favor of the cardiovascular.
Doctor :   it is musculoskeletal origin
User :   oh. I work at a desk all day long, perhaps it is from that and not cardiovascular?
Doctor :   simple ibuprofen 400 mg two times a day after food for three days would be fine
Doctor :   yes it is probably because of the bad posture at the desk and the muscles get strained
Doctor :   pain relief medications and simple stretch exercise would be fine
User :   The reason I was afraid of cardio problem is because I am overweight. (5'10" 240 lbs) and I do not exercise much. Are there any symptoms I should look out for just in case?
Doctor :   cardiovascular involvement in the form of heart attack is very rare at your age unless there is hereditary component. it usually comes all at once the the pain and discomfort of the chest will be severe enough to warrant you to a ER visit
Doctor :   only indicators are the symptoms you need to watch and check
Doctor :   like as you are over weighted that is an indicator - need to reduce the weight
Doctor :   sedentary - need to do exercise
Doctor :   food habits - reduction in consumption of fatty diet
Doctor :   alcohol and smoking - good you dont
Doctor :   hypertension - check for the blood pressure
User :   My blood pressure yesterday was 126/78 with a pulse of 61.
Doctor :   thats normal range
Doctor :   diabetes - if family history is there than it needs to be periodically checked for the early development
User :   the only family member with a heart attack early was my grandmother's brother at age 35. He died and was a heavy drinker and smoker. Is that close enough to be considered hereditary?
Doctor :   he has a bad life style
Doctor :   in hereditary almost all the family members will have an heart attack at the early age say late 20s and in mid 30s
Doctor :   so it is basically a lifestyle modification which is needed in you and it is weight reduction and exercise
User :   Thank you very much for your help. Is it common for both arms to have pain from poor posture?
Doctor :   yes it is probably originating from the neck muscles also
Doctor :   more so apparent in the arms
Doctor :   pain relief medications ad stretch exercise of te muscles is sufficient
User :   thank you very much. Have a great day.
Doctor :   thanks for consulting health care magic
Doctor :   bye for now
