User :   I have a question about a skin condition on my arm. I have a firm pinkish/reddish bump on my arm. I have been picking at it since November and it seems it amy get a little bigger each time it comes back. I recall some type of skin colored bump in this area in the past but it really started drawing my attention in October/Novermber last year.
I assumed it was a dermatofibroma - When I squeeze it there is a very slight dimple in the middle of the lesion but the edges dont dimple. The pictures I see online show the entire lesion dimpling. I believe before I cont picking at it it dimpled more - maybe it doesnt dimple as much as it was a few months ago b/c I dont let it grow all the way back.
Doctor :   hi
User :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here. Let me read what you have typed.
User :   it said something would be mailed to me - thats not the case is it ?
Doctor :   This is the live chat with the doctor
User :   when i press on it it loses its pinkish color for a moment
Doctor :   the e-mail answer that you expect could be from the dermatologist
Doctor :   which is a different service
User :   I know but when I purchased the 15 mins it said something would be shipped to my address ?
Doctor :   known as the specialist opinion
User :   i dont want anything mailed to me
Doctor :   I do not about this then, I am from the medical team and I answer medical queries.
Doctor :   however
Doctor :   i will escalate the matter to the concerned people
Doctor :   such that they look into it
Doctor :   shall we proceed with your discussion?
User :   yes
Doctor :   is there pain, itching or dryness associated?
Doctor :   is the skin above the bump stretched and shiny?
User :   maybe itching / dryness from time to time
User :   I pick at it alot
Doctor :   please provide your age, gender, location, occupation, marital status, height, weight, details of past medical illness if any.
User :   not really shiny maybe stretch a bit on the ends in certain spots
Doctor :   could you describe the bump in more detail to me? i mean to ask you regarding the approximate size, shape, consistency etc.
User :   280 pounds / 26 male single 6 foot
User :   firm, a little larger than an eraser, almost like an extension of the skin that is raised. pinkish/reddish but when i push on it it loses it color
Doctor :   ok. is it possible for you to send a picture to me of the lesion that you are describing? if yes please send it to
User :   like i said i think it has a slight dimple when squeeze it
User :   I cant send a pic
User :   what does it sound like ?
User :   i have been picking at this thing frequently for like 7 months, I can pick it down to the skin without it bleeding
Doctor :   ok. the description that you gave does suggest a dermatofibroma
Doctor :   but it needs to be confirmed
Doctor :   by doing a biopsy and examination of the tissue
Doctor :   to see what exactly it is
Doctor :   and this can be done after a careful examination by a dermatologist
User :   do all dermatofibromas dimple
User :   what makes u say dermatofibroma
Doctor :   who will send for the biopsy
User :   I will see my family dr
Doctor :   few of them do dimple
User :   I wanted to do this first
User :   so most dermatofibromas do not dimple ?
Doctor :   and i say it to be a probable dermatofibroma based on the description you have given
User :   if you press on a melanoma would it lose its color ?
User :   or would it bleed if you picked at it ?
Doctor :   no, it wil not lose its color
Doctor :   and most often it wil bleed when picked at it
User :   so if i press on this and the color turns back skin tone for a few seconds can that almost completely rule out melanoma ?
User :   would a dermatofibroma bleed if picked at
Doctor :   sometimes they do bleed.
Doctor :   and the dimple that you get in it is due to the varying
User :   this doesnt bleed unless i pick it past skin level
Doctor :   ok.
Doctor :   dimple that you get in it is due to the varying amounts of fibrin and collagen tissue
User :   I dont want you guys calling this in I will contact my dr and let him look at
Doctor :   when collagen is more than fibrin it would dimple
Doctor :   that is the best thing to do
User :   not all dermafibromas dimple ?
User :   do most of them not
Doctor :   and that what even I would recommend you to do
Doctor :   get it examined first
User :   so u dont think melanoma ?
Doctor :   and proceed further with the adequate treatment
Doctor :   no, since it does change the color i would not think of melanoma first.
