User:hello Dr ....
User:Gud after noon
Doctor:Good afternoon.
Doctor:How can I help you?
User:my wife is delivered a baby girl on 13th Feb 2012
User:which was 20 days earlier than the expeted date of delivery.
User:thank u doctor ...
User:before her delivery, she had undergone regular check up & came to know that she had little bit higher levels of suger..
User:doctors said it was quite normal during pregnancy..
Doctor:That right.
User:some how she had to under gone ceserian section
User:during operation time, doctors found that placenta had a knot
User:my question here is, how does this kind of knot will happen ?
User:bcz placenta is connectd btween mother & baby..
User:if that knot is happend earlier then it should have visible in the scaning reports
User:which was not the case in regular scan check ups..
Doctor:The growing fetus in the mother rotates inside the uterus.
Doctor:Such rotations are more common during labour, that is at the time of delivery.
Doctor:Such rotations sometimes can kink the cord, twist, form knots and so on.
Doctor:So, the knot that you describe probably may have occurred when your wife went into labor.
Doctor:This is not related to your wife's high sugar values
Doctor:and since it occurred during labor, the earlier scans did not reveal any pathology.
Doctor:Have you followed what I have suggested?
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:after the delivery she did not check the sugar levels
User:is it necessary to check the sugar levels after the delivery ?
Doctor:Yes, it is necessary to monitor sugar values post delivery.
Doctor:Some women may continue to have high sugars post pregnancy
Doctor:while in some women this occurs only during pregnancy.
Doctor:Persisting sugars needs to be managed with appropriate diet, lifestyle and medications.
Doctor:Further, it is necessary to repeat blood sugars again during her next pregnancy too.
Doctor:As 50 - 80% women may have high sugars again during subsequent pregnancy.
Doctor:So please do recheck her sugars now.
Doctor:Have you followed what I suggested?
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:at present baby is having breastfeed from her mother..
User:if higher level sugar persists in mother, then how does this effect the baby which is taking breastfeed
Doctor:Breast feeding does not harm a child.
Doctor:Rarely it may cause jaundice in some.
Doctor:Another disadvantage of breast feeding is in a few children who have lactose intolerance.
Doctor:Apart from these, there are no major ill effects.
Doctor:It doesn't affect the child's blood sugars.
User:what is lactose intolerance ?
Doctor:Lactose is a form of carbohydrate (sugar) present in any milk.
Doctor:Some child may not be able to digest/absorb some form of carbohydrate especially this lactose.
Doctor:When a child is lactose intolerant, he/she may have nausea, loose stools and other abdominal complaints after taking milk.
Doctor:I presume your child doesn't have any such problem.
Doctor:So the chances of lactose intolerance is less.
Doctor:Have you followed what I have suggested?
Doctor:Do you have any more queries?
User:our baby has jaundice problem ..
User:her eyes are looking yellow..
User:doctor told us to expose the kid to morning sunrise
User:this we are following
User:still how many this shd continue ?
Doctor:Every child after delivery develops jaundice.
Doctor:This is a natural phenomenon.
Doctor:This usually lasts for less than a week post delivery.
Doctor:A few may have an exaggerated jaundice lasting for few more weeks.
Doctor:Rarely due to congenital defects, jaundice may persist.
Doctor:I cannot predict what type of jaundice your child has.
Doctor:You need to continue exposing your child to sun (phototherapy)
Doctor:and wait and watch.
Doctor:If yellow discoloration persist, then get blood tests done.
User:in our baby's case jaundice is there more than 20 days..
User:now it looks fine..
Doctor:If the jaundice has not reduced since the last 20 days, you need those test.
Doctor:If it's gone now, then it is just an exaggerated phenomena.
Doctor:Nothing to worry.
Doctor:Have you followed?
Doctor:Do you have any more queries?
User:i think thats all for now.. we will get back to you as & when we get any doubt Dr..
User:thanks a lor for your valuable info..
Doctor:My pleasure.
User:Have a nice day..
Doctor:You can get back to us any time.
