Hi
How can I help you?
I have a query with respect to gynec
Proceed
My wife was due this month on 6th Dec'12. But she didnt get the periods yet. We did check for preganacy today morning at home by using preganews which is available in market. But that came negative. I'm just worried that do we need to wait still before she can test it again or wait for periods to come or is there any other problem?
May I know your wife's age and whether her periods were regular in the past?
age is 26. Her periods used to be delayed by a day or 2 but not more than that
Ok
Let me brief you.
Sure
The results of the test are true and accurate after a week of missed period.
Now since it is almost 11 days after her expected date of period and the test showed negative results, it is unlikely that she is pregnant.
Have you clearly verified the results.
As some times during early pregnancy
there can be very faint line which goes to give a darker line subsequently.
Yes. u said it right...
today morning when we checked at home. The second line was very blurred.
thats the reason i took her to lab and gave the urine test there too, but there he said its negative...
If there was a faint line initially I would suggest you to repeat the test again after a few days.
I am not convinced with the lab reports if it was urine sample which was tested.
But how come pathology people didnt catch it?
I would suggest you to repeat the test again after 3 days using pregnancy kit, alternatively
I would suggest a blood test
that tests for hCG levels in the body.
The blood test will reveal much clearer results than urine test.
I did insist on blood test, but that guy was not ready to hear.. he said urine test is fine...
at this point of time I would suggest the following:
1. Repeat the urine test using home pregnancy kit after 3 days.
2. If the test show positive results, then it is likely she is pregnant.
If the test does not reveal a clear line, then report to a gynecologist.
She can process blood test to rule out pregnancy along with other tests.
If pregnancy is ruled out in all the instances
she will prescribe your wife medications which will cause withdrawal bleeding.
In brief, since this is the first time she had such delayed period,
I am not worried much. However I would want to rule out pregnancy for sure before I try any treatment to induce periods.
Have you followed?
Yes.
One last question
Proceed.
Is there a possibility that it takes so many days after the due date to know that a person is pregnant?
becoz its already 11 days past...
As I said earlier, urine test done using kits are fairly accurate in confirming pregnancy if the period is delayed for more than one week;
however it is also well that the urine pregnancy test can reveal false positive report or faint lines during early stages of pregnancy.
Therefore we repeat the tests after few days or get a blood test done.
If there are further doubts, ultrasound scan (transvaginal ultrasound scan) is done to confirm or rule out pregnancy.
Let your wife take folic acid supplements (tab.folvite 5mg)
which are routinely prescribed during pregnancy until we sort this confusion.
She is already taking folic acid 5 mg since 6 months....
I appreciate that. She can continue to take them.
ok. Thanks for the time Doctor...
We can repeat the tests as I mentioned above and plan a visit to a gynecologist (either to assess her pregnancy or to induce periods) based on the results of the test.
Hope it is clear to you.
Yes
Do you have any other query?
Not right now
Thanks for consulting me.
Bye for now.
