User :   HI i had a c section seven weeks ago and since then have had a really bad cough. i have not got a cold or anything. the cough really hurts my insides and i find it hard to breathe. also my back hurts when i have the cough and i have also lost my appetite. it comes and goes during different times of day. when i was in hospital i had an infection for which i was given antibiotics and was cleared up. i then developed a wound infection and was prescribed some more antibiotics. my wound has healed now and does not hurt. could this coughing be another infection?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hi
Doctor :   Pl.Give me few seconds to go through your query.
Doctor :   Yes this could be another infection not pertaining to your wound.
User :   so what kind of infection is it and why has it happened
Doctor :   May I ask you a few questions pertaining to your problem to help you better
User :   yes of course
Doctor :   May I know your age please ?
User :   23
Doctor :   May I know when the CS was done and you were blessed with a child.
User :   it was on the 17th of jan
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   this year
Doctor :   May I know what infection you had when you were in the hospital ?
User :   im not sure but it was because my waters had been broken for longer than 24 hours. i was given iv antibiotics and then cefolexin for another week after leaving hospital
Doctor :   Ok.
And what was the wound infection that you had and what was the medication that you had taken.
User :   well i did not take anything for this infection. it was a steph infection i think. my results had come back but the doctors receptionist did not tell me until two weeks later until which time my wound had healed so the doctor said i would not be needing anything as the wound looked fine. if i had found out on time then he said i would have had to go hospital to get an antibiotic injection
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   i think its staph not steph sorry
Doctor :   What was the wound exactly ?
User :   a c section wound
Doctor :   No problem , I got it as Staphylococcus.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   The cough is totally different chapter unrelated to your previous problems .
Doctor :   Cough can be due to diffeerent reasons.
Doctor :   It can be allergic.
Doctor :   or due to infection.
User :   i only developed it after my c section. i have never had a cough like this before
Doctor :   But i do not consider infection as you said it is dry cough without infection ,
User :   some days it completely goes and then two days later it comes abck
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   Since when are you having these relapses of cough ?
User :   a similar thing happened to my friend after a c section and they told her she had developed mild pneumonia due to the fluid retention. could this be what has happened to me
User :   since 2 weeks after my c section they come every two and three days and then go away for a day or two then come back this has been happening for four weeks now
Doctor :   It could be due to pneumonia but usually you have expectoration.
Doctor :   that is mucus coming out, or greeenish or yellowish sputum coming out.
Doctor :   The best thing would be to get a chest x-ray done and a proper physical examination and an auscultation done.
User :   it does not come out but i do feel like being sick and feel like somthing wants to come out of my body. i get a little mucus coming out but nothing much
Doctor :   I would not put you antibiotics as you are a feeding mother.
Doctor :   I would rather give you a steam inhalation of 1.Karvol plus twice daily.
Doctor :   2. Salt water gargling
Doctor :   3. Grillinctus syrup thrice daily.
Doctor :   4.x-ray chest
Doctor :   these would be the best line of treatment.
Doctor :   take care
Doctor :   bye
