User :   Hello...I went to urgent care yesterday due to acid reflux (due to over indulgence of alcohol during the Christmas holidays). They gave me pepcid cocktail and I feel fine. They also took a chest X-ray and found a spot on the image. The Impression states: " Small consolidation in the left midlung which may represent focal pneumonia, however, recommend followup to resolution to exclude an underlying mass. If the opacity persists of follow up X-ray imaging, a chest CT is recommended." This has gotten me very worried that it may be lung cancer. I'm 39 years old, in excellent health, life-long non-smoker,148lbs, and very physical active. My blood work is perfect. However, my son had pneumonia a few weeks ago, and I developed a a cough, which ended. I have had NO symptoms for at least 2-3 weeks and feel great. The doctor yesterday put me on 250MG of the Z-pack to treat for pneumonia. Should I be afraid of cancer? Thanks for your help.
Doctor :   Hi

User :   Amen Doctor!
User :   I"m thru!
Doctor :   well i wont be concerned bout the consolidation in the Xay
Doctor :   ray
Doctor :   as you dont have any signs that will show so
User :   I have been on web site after website...and reading about all these "asymptomatic" people who have cancer...discovered incidentally like me...
Doctor :   focal pneumonia is the most probable cause and you DO have a history of exposure from your son
Doctor :   well thats why you have doctors and not google to guide you
User :   Yes...that is true. Should I have another xray after I"m done with my Zpack?
Doctor :   so its been 2nd day for your antibiotics right ?
User :   Third...first one started on the 26th.
Doctor :   yeah you should once you finish the course . sometimes pneumonia can lead to a harmless calcified mass
Doctor :   do you have any history of breathlessness ?
User :   Ok...when should I schedule that? you think that the radiologist would have noted something different on his impression if he thought something worse? No history of breathlessness. I'm a triathlete and marathoner.
Doctor :   well very doc has to be completely honest with his patient and your radiologist had even .0001% thought if it was cancer he would not have told you so that you take these antibiotics
Doctor :   so dont worry
User :   I'm sorry...please repeat..your saying that if he had the slightest thought it would be a cancer...he would have proceeded differently?
Doctor :   yes
User :   Ok...that is comforting...I'm really nervous doctor...when you see a spot on the is scary stuff...especially when that is not even why I went to the doctor
Doctor :   and even i can tell you from your history
Doctor :   you have nothing to worry about
Doctor :   be positive
User :   Should I get another Xray next week?
User :   I will try to be positive.
Doctor :   a week after you finish your course
User :   ok...I will do my last pill is on I will schedule for next friday
Doctor :   thats right
User :   I should probably stop googling too...I see people my age, non-smokers, who have it....and it scares me.
Doctor :   yeah you should really stop googling around
Doctor :   dont worry
Doctor :   you will be finer
Doctor :   fine**
User :   :) I will. Since I have no sypmptoms can I workout? Also...just while I have you...what is the probability of a 39 year old male, non smoker, of getting lung cancer? Sorry...I'm an enginneer I had to ask.
Doctor :   well in YOUR CASE its RARE
User :   Ok...thank you for your time...our time is almost up. I feel better.
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   take care of your self
Doctor :   and enjoy your holidays
