User :   I was tested and found that i have CMV IgG equal to 750 AU/ml and after 3 months, i test again and found the result is 350U/ml. i am preparing to have a baby? Could i go for pregnancy with this condition?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   HELLO doctor
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   i am currently 25 year old
Doctor :   And can you describe your symptoms based on which the CMV serology test was suggested?
User :   i dont have any symtoms
User :   i went to test in Vietnam and the result was sent back
User :   i could only read on the paper that i have CMV IgG
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
User :   yes please
Doctor :   Cytomegalovirus IgG levels indicate an old infection or a previous vaccination.
Doctor :   Were you vaccinated in the past for CMV?
User :   No
User :   i have never been
Doctor :   Ok
User :   so what i should do for this?
Doctor :   The effect of infection on pregnancy depends on the viral load of the virus.
Doctor :   It is one of the causes of recurrent abortions or occurrence fetal defects.
User :   yes
User :   ummm
Doctor :   I cannot predict the viral load based on the IgG levels.
Doctor :   However an increase in the titres ( generally a four fold increase)
Doctor :   is indicative of an infection which is active.
Doctor :   Based on these facts, the chances of fetal complications are less however cannot be ruled out.
Doctor :   If you are trying for pregnancy, you will need frequent monitoring during the pregnancy.
User :   yes
User :   i will
User :   so the result does not mean a good sign or bad sign?
User :   i could still go for pregnancy?
Doctor :   Compared to your previous reports, you are doing well.
Doctor :   I suggest you to wait for a few more months and get a repeat of the IgG levels and if they are reducing, then go for pregnancy.
User :   does the level of 353u/ml of CMV IgG could cause fetal death?
User :   ok
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   example, i test again for CMV IgG and then it is still 350u/ml for next 2 months? what does it mean?
Doctor :   A persistent levels or rise in titres need evaluation.
Doctor :   You will need evaluation to look at the viral load. If they are high too, you may need to use antiviral drugs.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   i read some Q and A on your page, past infection of CMV IgG is lower risk for pregnant woman
User :   i am not in that kind as per your explaination?
Doctor :   Let clear that point.
Doctor :   IgG levels indicate an old infection.
Doctor :   However a rise in titer indicates presence of
Doctor :   infection which is active.
