Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Iam.Dr.XXX
User :   Hi doctor
Doctor :   may i help you now?
User :   My wife found out yesterday she is prgnant
User :   However we are concerned
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   May i know her age?
Doctor :   what is the reason ?
User :   36
Doctor :   ok
User :   She had abdominal CT scan about 4 days after coception
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   is she having any disease?
User :   And Also taken Primolut N 5mg for 5 days 1 tab/day
User :   Having trouble falling preg
Doctor :   ok
User :   And we were investigating some Fibroids she has in her uterus
Doctor :   was she planning to postpone her menses?
Doctor :   any bleeding disorder ?
User :   No bleeding
Doctor :   why did she take the tablets?
User :   We are concrened we may have exposed the fetus to CT radiation and Primolut N
Doctor :   yes sure
User :   Period was due 29th
Doctor :   did you discuss that with your gynaec dr?
Doctor :   ok
User :   And she took tablets from 31st to 4th
User :   so about 4-5 days past period due
Doctor :   ok
User :   Not yet
Doctor :   so she has exposed the fetus to radiation and primolut-n
User :   We are seeing our GP tomorrow
Doctor :   which can have some impact
Doctor :   on the developing fetus
Doctor :   as this is the most sensitive period
User :   We had sex on 19th and she had CT scan 22nd
Doctor :   of organ growth
User :   ok
Doctor :   so you need to investigate the fetus using ultrasound
User :   ok
User :   From your experience can this have adverse effect even at that early stage of the pregnancy?
Doctor :   yes some chances are there
Doctor :   yes she can have a abortion too
Doctor :   even now
Doctor :   if the fetus is severely affected
Doctor :   that is the natural way of giving healthy baby
User :   How do we know if it affected?
Doctor :   it will be detected in ultrasound scan
Doctor :   after 4-6 weeks
Doctor :   or even some blood tests
User :   ok
Doctor :   like acetylcholineestarase
Doctor :   etc
Doctor :   which you need to talk to your gp now
Doctor :   as CT causes large
User :   So...your saying any problems can be detected very early
Doctor :   radiation
Doctor :   that is very high
Doctor :   yes\
Doctor :   even a natural abortion too
Doctor :   is a possibility
Doctor :   if fetus ahs major damage
Doctor :   has
User :   ok
Doctor :   you may check blood HCG LEVELS
Doctor :   which shows continuation of pregnancy
Doctor :   if it is decreasing
Doctor :   chances of abortion are there
Doctor :   also the timing of sex and CT scan
Doctor :   is also important
Doctor :   i mean the sex for conception
Doctor :   thanks for consultataion...
Doctor :   Bye for now....
Doctor :   take care...
User :   Sex for conception is important
User :   ??
User :   You mean the fetus may not have developed at that stage?
Doctor :   if it was before the ct scan
Doctor :   i mean the fertilisation
Doctor :   taht has taken place
Doctor :   it will have an impact
Doctor :   so if it was slightly far away from the fertilization day
Doctor :   the chances for abortion will be slightly less
Doctor :   as the embryo
Doctor :   will be little more mature
User :   Probably around 3-4 days
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   since it was an abdominal scan
Doctor :   the chances of radiation are more
Doctor :   if it was ct chest it would have been very less
User :   Some literature on web suggests 5 rad or less will have negligible effect on the fetus at that early stage
Doctor :   so you may anyway discuss about the exposure with your gp
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   but in most ct it will be very high
User :   do you know what the exposure strength of CT is?
Doctor :   it can vary depending on the machine used
Doctor :   and also it will be higher than a common xray used
User : your opinion can the prgenacny still continue?
Doctor :   yes it can
Doctor :   if the embryo is not that affected
User :   ok
Doctor :   as to naturally cause and abortion
Doctor :   it is not necessary for all to develop comlications
User :   If the pregnancy continues, it is likely that the embryo may not have been affected?
Doctor :   it also depends on the health status of the mother
Doctor :   yes it can be
Doctor :   as every one need not be affected everytimes
User :   mother is healthy
Doctor :   ok
User :   ok Doctor thank you
Doctor :   thank you for consutling..
User :   we'll visit GP tomorrow
Doctor :   wishing her good health
Doctor :   bye fro now..
User :   Thank you
Doctor :   take care....
