User :   I just got back from 5 days in XXX and have multiple cold sores, dehydration, diarrhea, achy body and insomnia. The weather conditions were very dry and hot, and I consumed lots of alcohol on trip. With all my symptoms and info provided, is this just from dry climate or something more severe?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
User :   i must mention that I have used listerine on my cold sores to dry them, however they are painful and cracking
Doctor :   I am reading the query
Doctor :   I am Dr. XXX
User :   ok, thank you
Doctor :   Give me a couple of minutes
User :   ok
Doctor :   The weather seems to have a severe affect on you
Doctor :   Sip on lot of fluids
Doctor :   with lemon, salt and sugar
User :   ok
User :   my next question is this, and I am extremely embarrassed to say this
User :   my lips were severely dry and cracking
Doctor :   Do not lick on the lips with the salivea
Doctor :   It causes them drier
Doctor :   makes them drier*
User :   I met someone on the trip and performed oral sex and got 3 cold sores
User :   i am freaking out
Doctor :   Keep applying petroleum jelly or vaseline once every 2 hours
Doctor :   Ok
User :   could this be a sexual transmission problem?
User :   or do you think climate
Doctor :   Oral sex can cause such sores but not with dry and parchy lips
Doctor :   So I attribute them to weather
User :   phew ok, good to know
User :   i was freaking out
Doctor :   However if you do not get better in a day
Doctor :   or two, I suggest an examination by the Doctor
Doctor :   But keep continuing the measures I told religiously
Doctor :   unless we never know if it is weather or a sexual transmission
User :   ok, but with dehydration, diarrhea and achy body is this a sign from climate?
Doctor :   You go it
Doctor :   I have one thing against my possible reasons that is the 5 day duration of the problems
User :   i just want to see from a doctor's perspective if it sounds more climate induced
Doctor :   So I just was giving a chance of one day with the above measures
Doctor :   if they clear otherwise you have to get checked
Doctor :   by a Doctor
User :   ok i will
Doctor :   Though tests many not prove anything for STD in 5 days
User :   just want to see if my symptoms sound more climate based
User :   do any STD's have similar symptoms?
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   Herpes
User :   so with herpes one can get dehydrated, diarrhea and insomnia?
Doctor :   No
User :   ok, since i get cold sores and my lips were severely dry and cracking, could this be the reason I have so many cold sores?
Doctor :   I think your question is confusing
User :   my question is this...can excessive dryness, sun, etc, induce cold sores to form?
Doctor :   yes
User :   ok
Doctor :   Most often the cold sores are due to extreme stress
Doctor :   be it mental, physical '
Doctor :   Nutritional def
User :   well, i know my body's immune system has suffered on the trip due to alcohol consumption and lack of sleep
Doctor :   Absolutely I take this reason
Doctor :   but we cannot rule out the other cause because of the duration if it prolongs more than 7 days
User :   ok, just wanted to get a doctor's perspective
User :   ok, I will take necessary precautions.
User :   one more question
Doctor :   I think you should not worry now
