User :   Is it safe to smoke a few cigarettes for a couple days on vacation if I am on 5 mg of bystolic?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr
Doctor :   yes , it is safe
User :   If I typically have high blood pressure without the bystolic, in the neighborhood of 150 over 95 but with bystolic it is around 115 over 75, will the smoking cause blood pressure to rise to risky levels?
Doctor :   no not at all
Doctor :   smoking can affect the BP over the long term
Doctor :   it does not affect on the shortterm
User :   What about having 2-3 drinks over the course of a few hours? Again, this is just a two day trip so I'd like to cut loose a little, but am concerned about the bystolic
Doctor :   no that is also not bad
Doctor :   one -2 drinks is ok, and does not cause any side effects as such
User :   If I plan to try to wean off the bystolic in a few weeks, how should I go about cutting the dose to avoid sharp rise in BP?
Doctor :   y are u planning to wean off the bp pills ?
User :   My wife and I are going to start trying to have a child and I don't want any risk of contamination to sperm. My doc said if I lose about 20 lbs. I can probably get off the bystolic.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   that is ok
Doctor :   but the sperms are not going to affect the sperms in any way
Doctor :   i mean by taking bystolic
User :   I also don't like the way I feel on bystolic. I want to get off of it as soon as possible. So is there a safe way to go off of them once I reach my weight goal?
Doctor :   first you need to reduce your salt intake (diet restriction of salt)
User :   for how long do I need to restrict it?
Doctor :   2. since your BP is still on the higher side wihout medications, you should continue the medication for some time
Doctor :   the salt restriction may be needed for a long time as long as you are having a high BP
Doctor :   IF U PLAN to get of meds, then salt restriction plays a greater role
Doctor :   150/ 95 is a high BP
User :   Thank you. Anything else I should know?
Doctor :   you can ask your doc to change the pill to some thing like Hydrocholorthiazide or betaloc IF POSSIBLE
Doctor :   so that you can avoid the side effects that you have with bystolic
Doctor :   but it is in your best interest to be on a pill for your high BP , as long as it remains high without meds
Doctor :   I hope you have followed my advice here
Doctor :   Are u there ?
User :   Thank you so much. I was thinking in terms of the how to do it, in a hypothetical sense. I promise I won't go off them without clearance from my doctor. I definitely won't risk my heart. :)
Doctor :   good
Doctor :   you are most welcome
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here ,
Doctor :   hope i have cleared all your doubts
User :   You've been a great help. Goodbye.
Doctor :   take care and have a good night
Doctor :   bye for now
