User :   My 16 month old daughter had a cholecystectomy after an exploratory surgery to rule out biliary atresia. Since then, she has experienced stomach aches, typically all at night, with painful gas. She was diagnosed with biliary hypoplasia, but since then, she has been jaundice free, with normal lab tests. My older brother has also had a chole and says greasy or fatty food will cause these symptoms. Do you have any suggestions on what to feed her?
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   Hello
Doctor :   yes, he is right.
Doctor :   fatty food do produce such symptoms
Doctor :   May i know a little bit detail of the food she likes to consume , so that i can modify according to the needs
User :   She is finicky and likes the typical toddler foods which is cereal, bananas, grapes, eggs, and unfortunately chicken nuggets. She could care less about vegetables. I am running out of ideas.
Doctor :   Why not make a salad out of them , i mean vegetables and the items she likes
Doctor :   try to feed mashed vegetables with a pinch of salt in it
Doctor :   fruits can be given in abundance
Doctor :   they could take care of the calorie requirement
User :   I will try. She also goes to daycare which they feed her anything such as pancakes, bacon, and other fried and fatty foods. So diet is inconsistent. I would need a doctor or nutritionist's suggestion to send to daycare for a special diet, or they will not comply. Her pediatrition and GI specialist don't seem to think a nutritionist is necessary so I am getting frustrated. Could she be experiencing reflux since she experiences these symptoms at night?
Doctor :   yes, even a single fatty meal can cause symptoms
User :   Do you think surgery could have caused scarring and she will always have stomach issues, or worse, complications all her life? Or do you think she will grow out of this and her body will become accustomed to her limits?
Doctor :   her body will over come it ,as she has a lot growth ahead
User :   Do you think I need a second opinion on getting her a nutritionist?
Doctor :   yes, i can refer you to one
User :   I live in Huntsville, Alabama.
Doctor :   i can get a chart planned for her , online
User :   I am all ears (or all eyes)
Doctor :   you will see a pop up in the right which will guide you for the same
User :   Thank you for your time. My toddler needs my attention now!
