User : My child who is 2.6 years old is down with fever (102-103) since Saturday, with no other symptoms. Our doctor prescribed Meftal P to be given every 6th hour along with Azimax (once a day at night).. Just now after giving her Meftal P, she vomited immediately and I could see some of the syrup in the emesis (vomit)..
My question is, should I give her another dose of Meftal P or any other Paracetamol Syrup?
Doctor : Hi
Doctor : Let me read your query
User : Hello Dr.
User : Please.. take your time.
Doctor : Yes she will require another dose of Meftal P
Doctor : was Azimax also given
User : No, that was given at around 8:30pm.. hence I guess that has not been part of the vomit.
Doctor : Ok
Doctor : But meftal p was vomitted immidietly ?
Doctor : Is she running temperature even now?
Doctor : You can also do some Tepid sponging to reduce temperature
User : However, I must confess that I spoke to one of my friend (a medical store owner) who suggested not to give Meftal P, instead give her 3.5ml of Calpol (Paracetamol).. which I did.. Now should I give her Meftal ...?? (Answers to your queries: Yes meftal was vomitted after approximately 3 to 4 mins... No, she hasn't any temparature now.. had till 9:00 pm before giving Meftal)
Doctor : See Meftal is nothing but painkiller releives the body pain and paracetomol will reduce Fever
User : (Did Sponging this evening, because after every 4 hours, she had the temparature, which gave her some relief)
Doctor : Ok
User : Oh, but then why did my Doc. prescribe Meftal when she was having 103 yesterday evening.. (we started from Saturday night)
Doctor : So if she complains pain along with fever thyen Meftal P will help or else Paracetomol will do
User : Wouldn't paracetamol worked then ?
Doctor : Yes
Doctor : But in such high temperature will have severe body pain associated
User : So, now I've already given her 3.5ml of Paracetamol.. Would this be enough ?
Doctor : Yes
Doctor : 2.5 ml is sufficient
User : Okay fine. I was kind of worried, if I had over dosed her :)
User : Already gave 3.5 ml .. is that okay ?
Doctor : Thats ok but not more than four doses a day
User : Okay.. but since Meftal P was advised every 6th hour (if she has temparature, which she had every 4th or 5th hour since yesterday night), the next schedule is around 4:00 am in the morning. If she has temperature, should we give Meftal or Paracetamol ?
Doctor : Paracetomol will do if only fever is present
Doctor : Its dose is 2.5 ml Sixth hourly
Doctor : You can reduce the dose if fever subsides make it thrice a day
User : Okay.. Just to let you know my daughter is 2.6 years old, 13.5 kigs in weight. So, would 2.5ml suffice ?
User : ok.. fine.
Doctor : Yes
Doctor : Is there anything else i can help you with?
User : Oh, I was always giving her 5 ml (Calpol 250 mg).. Was I wrong in giving her 5 ml ?
Doctor : If it s strenght is 250 ml then its fine
User : Thats all.. Just wanted to make sure that after her vomit, I gave her Paracetamol 3.5 ml.. and if that is okay ?
Doctor : But calpol is usually more available in 500
User : Its 250 mg
Doctor : So be carefull not to overdose her
Doctor : Paracetomol is very injurious if excedded in dose
User : Okay, so for now, until 4:00 am (Monday) .. I should not give her any medicine.. right ?
User : Oh.. and is the injury readily visible .. or it effects the child later ?
Doctor : If she has no fever you can skip the dose
Doctor : Its affects later part
User : ok thanks for that helpful advise.
User : Oh ok.. I'll be careful not to overdose.
Doctor : It was my pleasure helping you
Doctor : wishing her a speedy recovery
Doctor : 'Thanks for consulting me
User : It was indeed my pleasure (and a great sigh of relief) to have such a "system".. I had already called my doctor several times today and didn't want to bother him at this hour. So this has helped me a lot.
User : Thank you Dr. Good night !
Doctor : Gud nt
Doctor : Bye for now
User : Bye.
