User :   I am confused about the state of my thyroid, in 2005, my TSH was 6.83
I used 50mg EUTROX then my doctor gradually increased the dose to 200mg
last mont my TSH result was TSH 0.014
a new doctor diagnosed me as HYPOTHYROID and gave me EUTROX 200mg during weekdays and 150mg during weekends.
if my TSH 0.014 shouldn't be I a HYPERTROID?
do you think my doctor is mistaken?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   When was the second TSH test done?
User :   last month i can send you lab results by email
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
Doctor :   Yes, you are correct in knowing that TSH levels are low in hyperthyroid state.
Doctor :   However, this can also happen if you are on thyroid hormones for hypothyroidism.
User :   how can i know the difference?
Doctor :   Since you are presently on the hormones, the reduction in the TSH levels are probably due to the drugs.
Doctor :   Hence only way to ascertain this is be gradually reducing the dose of the thyroid supplements and getting the levels checked.
Doctor :   Which is now on process.
User :   so u mean my doctors medicine eutrox 200mg lowering to 150 is correct?
Doctor :   Recheck the TSH levels again and if the hormones continues to be low, then you may need further reduction in the levels of the thyroid supplements,
Doctor :   The hormones have to be reduced to as the TSH levels goes low.
Doctor :   This can be achieved slowly.
Doctor :   The target in treatment of hypothyroidism is to achieve a state referred to as euthyroid state, '
Doctor :   which refers to getting the levels close to normal.
Doctor :   So my comments are that the low TSH levels may be due to the drugs that you are on,
Doctor :   and you may need reduction of the drugs or stoppage of the drugs.
Doctor :   Recheck the levels after doing this and further plan will be decided based on the reports.
Doctor :   I suggest you to consult an endocrinologist who can help you in this regards.
User :   so shall i continue taking 200mg eutrox during weekdays and 150mg on weekends?
Doctor :   My suggestions are that you recheck your TSH levels and consult an endocrinologist, if the values are still low, then you may need stopping the medications or further decrease in the dose.
User :   I see, thank you doctor; all the best:)
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
Doctor :   Are you there?
