User :   My uvula is elongated to where I am almost choking on it. I have tried tylanol and advil, as well as gargling salt water. It only started doing this 7-ish hours ago. I am currently on anti-biotics for strep throat.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   18
Doctor :   Since when did you notice this?
User :   7ish hours ago
Doctor :   Do you have difficulty while swallowing?
User :   yes
Doctor :   Do you find that uvula is pointing to either side instead of being in the centre?
User :   A little, but that was how it was before this started occurring
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Are you running fever?
User :   Not since this morning.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do you notice any other symptoms such as swelling of the lips, body itching, skin eruptions, dizziness?
User :   none
Doctor :   Ok
User :   Everything about my strep has gotten infinitely better, except now my uvula is more than twice its normal length
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
User :   Ok
Doctor :   Based on your description of symptoms, it appears that you are having an inflammtory condition affecting the throat structures.
Doctor :   There is another unusual possibliltity
User :   which would be?
Doctor :   that it could be a sign of an hypersensitivity reaction - an allergic reaction.
Doctor :   Since you do not report of other allergy symptoms, the former is likely.
User :   Yea, I'm not allergic to any of the medicines that I am taking anyway
Doctor :   Uvula inflammation are often associated with surronding tonsil, peri/paratonsilar inflammation or collections which will need appropriate antibiotics and occasionally a surgical manipulation.
User :   Ok. What should I do then?
Doctor :   Since I cannot visually examine the structures, it is a difficult task to predict the nature of illness and the appropriate treatment.
Doctor :   Hence I suggest that you to report back to your doctor.
User :   Ok.
Doctor :   A physical examination will provide more clues regarding the cause - inflammation/collection/hypersenstivity reaction and thereby its treatment.
Doctor :   Watch out for fever, severe breathlessness, itching, swelling of the lips, skin eruptions.
Doctor :   If any such symptoms occur you will need injectable medications.
Doctor :   Else, I expect your symptoms to improve gradually with appropriate medications.
Doctor :   Hence you need not panic.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   Ok. Thank you, I'll make sure to get to a doctor as soon as possible. Have a nice night
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
