User :   Hi I have impaired glucose tolerance or pre-diabetes and I was wondering why my fasting blood sugar varies from 90-124. For about 2 weeks I have been 102 and under and today I was 121? Same exercise routine and diet for the most part. And going to bed last night my blood sugar was 110.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
User :   Hi Doctor, I have posted my question about fasting blood glucose level
Doctor :   Ok, I have seen your query.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   May I ask you a few questions pertaining to your problem ?
User :   I have just been diagnosed about 3 weeks ago, because I had requested a blood panel to see if I am deficient in any vitamins or iron and the results came back as pre-diabetes
User :   sure
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   MAY I know your age please ?
User :   I am 30 years of age
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   May I know your height and weight ?
User :   I am 67.5 inches and my weight at the initial diagnosis was 197 and now I believe I am about 190, I have changed my lifestyle a great deal
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   health food choices and exercise
User :   *healthy
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   In border-line diabetes mellitus cases or what you also can call as pre-diabetes cases we see lot of fluctuations in sugar levels due to subtle differences in food intake, sleep patterns, stress, exercise , time of food intake, etc.
Doctor :   This could have shown up in your 121 on a certain day.
User :   At first my primary care physician told me my fasting was 123 and A1C was 7.1% and wanted to start me on medication, I went to my Endocrinologits a couple days later and he repeated the test and my fasting was 120 and A1C was 6.4% could the A1C differ so much in a few days?
Doctor :   I would suggest you to follow your exercise, diet regimen very strictly, as you are very young and a long future ahead.
User :   I have definitely revamped my daily routine and eating healthy and exercising 1 hour with about 20 minutes of pranayma yoga
Doctor :   In a couple of days, is it exactly 2-3 days, then it would be very difficult to change so much, but over a period of 30 days, it could get better as you have said, you have completely changed tonew life style.
Doctor :   That is very good to know.
User :   it was exactly 13 days after the initial test at my primary care but 6 days after I started eating better (after I found out the initial result)
Doctor :   Ok, That could have an effect on HbA1c.
Doctor :   Please adopt to your new life style and you will surely do well and can keep away Diabetes away fro at least another 20 yrs.
User :   Also I have been testing my glucose levels during morning, after eating 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, etc. I have eaten a few meals with more carbs just to see what my glucose does but I have been about 190 at 1 hours and 170 at 2 hours, and where I have eaten a carb meal of about 60 carbs I am around 140 and 2 hours
Doctor :   You need to be 160 pounds to be 25 on BMI Scale.
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   Absolutely! I am working towards that, and quite satisfied with my efforts so far
Doctor :   Very good.
User :   So with my current information I have given you, do you feel I can reverse this pre-diabetic stage?
Doctor :   Yes very much.
User :   without medication and just with diet and exercise
User :   okay
User :   Do you feel Yoga impacts our health in this matter as well?
Doctor :   You are still in the pre-diabetic stage which itself means you are in a reversible stage and at your age very much possible.
Doctor :   Yoga helps you a lot, I would also add that 70% help is by diet intake and discipline in diet and the rest 30% is exercise for sure.
Doctor :   So please do concentrate on them both.
User :   I eat indian food a lot of times and have become vegetarian about 4 months ago, do you suggest and indian food diet I should follow?
User :   Its hard to get nutrional advice on indian food
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   1.Fruits, Sprouts, Veggies and juices must form 70% of dietary intake at all 3 times - breakfast, lunch, breakfast.
User :   how about indian roti and rice
Doctor :   2. Please have at least 6 lts of water every day
Doctor :   3.Have warm water & honey one glass of 250ml per day in the morning.
Doctor :   Rotis are always better.
User :   I eat maximum 2
User :   at dinner
Doctor :   As you know the number and diet can be restricted.
Doctor :   That is very good.
User :   I have 2 more questions, I am taking birth control pills Ocella (generic for Yasmin) could that alter my glucose levels or have a negative affect on my condition?
Doctor :   Please avoid, sweets, ice creams, bakery products, milk shakes, french fries, pizzas or burgers, cheese, and egg yellow, prawns, mutton and liver of animals.
Doctor :   Ok,it has a large no. of side effects. Most of the women have vomitings, nausea, irregular spotting or bleeding and sometimes primary embolism.
User :   Does it also affect blood glucose levels?
Doctor :   It has no proven effect
User :   how do you feel about a vegan diet for diabetes? without any dairy products
Doctor :   Very good and will get better soon.
Doctor :   Please continue the same regimen
User :   okay thanks. i am vitamin d deficient and have been prescribed 1 pill a week 50,000 units
Doctor :   and you will need no medicine and you will be in normal range soon
Doctor :   Please continue it
Doctor :   Take care
