1 . HbF is the major haemoglobin of the fetus & newborn . With in

one year, it comes down to 2% . However, it can be as high as

5% at 12 - 24 months of age .
User :   Synthesis of HbF increases in about 25% of women in 2 nd

trimester of pregnancy ( may be upto 5% ).
User :   Increased A 2 may be seen in Beta thalassemia, sickle cell

anaemia, megalobastic anaemia, hyperthyroidism and some rare

haemoglobin disorders .
User :   In rare cases when B - thalassemia carriers have concomitant

Iron deficiency, HbA 2 levels may be reduced .
