User :   Hello
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   How can I help you ?
User :   I just received my AST/ALT results and were both elevated
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   May I know the exact levels please ?
User :   Does that mean I have Hepititis?
User :   What are the chances?
User :   I started working out and have also been taking lamictal.. Can that cause it to be elevated?
User :   sure...
Doctor :   Elevated AST & ALT levels do not definitively mean you have Hepatitis.
User :   AST 114
User :   ALT 61
Doctor :   In many other conditions you see their elevation.
User :   I have had labs done for a hep panel but I haven't recieved it yet
Doctor :   Ok, I have seen the values, they are definitevly not very high, especially ALT is almost in the normal range.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   let me explain you ;
User :   I work in the medical field so it scares me
User :   I also take vyvance
Doctor :   Ok, Do not worry,
We see elevated Liver enzymes in many acute hepatitis and apart from it i severe work out regimens or exercises or muscle strain or muscle injury as well.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   It is also seen in some drug over dosage like in Acetaminophen over dosage as well.
User :   So, my levels aren't that high to nessarily mean I have hep.. It could just be from my work out regimin.. I just started so maybe that's why..
Doctor :   Please do not worry, and as you are a part of the medical fraternity , let me tell you that the most common reason for elevated AST & ALT are obesity and fatty liver.
User :   I think at one time my levels were elevated but hep never came up.. it couldn't be dormant could it?
User :   I am not over weight.. could I still have a fatty liver?
User :   I have always been average weight for my height sometimes a little more
Doctor :   If at all it is dormant, it cannot hide form a Serum test, like a HBS Antigen test .And I feel if you have had Hepatitis , it would have shown up in blood test, so do not worry about that.
Doctor :   Do you consume alcohol and have any fatty food or lot of junk food ?
User :   not really.. every now and then I drink.. and fatty foods not so much. atleast not lately
Doctor :   Ok,
User :   Is the HBV test the actual hep test?
User :   I will get that back monday.. I was just shocked that my levels were high and the doctor who ordered it seemed to already think I had hep
Doctor :   That can be ruled out, elevated AST & ALT are also seen due to use of some Tricyclic anti- depressants.
Doctor :   It is the confirmatory test for Hep.B , But i still feel, your levels are marginally high and you should not be worrying much about this.
User :   I haven't been on anti depressants lately
User :   Well, thank you soo much. I really appreciate it
Doctor :   Ok. That is good.
Doctor :   Dont you worry, just take rest for a while, stop exercising in excess, and let us see after that.
Doctor :   Thank you for consulting me
Doctor :   take care
Doctor :   bye for now
