User :   I am fairly certain I sprained my ankle just over 2 weeks ago while exercising. It popped, then bruised, and swelled. Today, I am able to walk on it pain free, however it is still swollen, feels somewhat loose, and I get a painful burning sensation in front of and underneath the ankle bone if I am not careful with it or bend it to the side. Is it time to visit the doctor and get it checked out or give it some more time to heal on it's own? I've been following R.I.C.E. as best as I can with a toddler. I have injured this ankle twice previously, once resulting in fibular fracture.
Thank you!
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   May I know your age and gender?
User :   26/f
Doctor :   Can I know the exact mode of injury - did you twist the ankle?
User :   yes, I twisted it.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   The most common injuries following ankle twist are the ligament injuries which result in excessive swelling.
Doctor :   The swelling needs ample rest, anti-inflammatory drugs and ankle immobilization for enough amount of time for it to completely heal.
Doctor :   If you have been moving around with the swelling, the injury that you have sustained may not have healed yet.
Doctor :   If the swelling is severe, then I would suggest you to consult an orthopedician, to assess the injury and if required for the use of limb immobilizers..
Doctor :   In the mean time, I would suggest you to continue icing the joint and you may use anti-inflammatory agents available as OTC such as tablet advil twice a day.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   yes, thank you. I've been resting it and icing it as often as possible.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query that I can assist you with?
User :   No, thank you. Have a good night.
Doctor :   Please fill the feedback form too.
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me. Bye for now. Please refer your friends to our service.
