User:Hi Doctor
Doctor:How can I help you?
User:I have a query regarding the haemoglobin count
Doctor:Yes; proceed...
User:my mom's age is 59 years
User:her haemoglobin count is 6.5
User:physician advised to get the blood transfusion done
User:i am wondering if it can be treated without blood transfusion
User:with the help of medicines
Doctor:It is better to transfuse her with blood.
Doctor:2-3 pints of packed red blood cells can be transfused.
Doctor:I say this because
Doctor:hemoglobin under 6 is considered as severe anemia.
Doctor:The risks of heart failure and lung congestion is high when hemoglobin is under 6.
Doctor:Therefore you should opt for blood transfusion
User:right now its 6.5
Doctor:Iron supplements can be taken simultaneously started.
User:anything i should be worried about?
Doctor:Hemoglobin of 6.5 is not serious if she doesn't have complications of heart failure or lung congestion.
Doctor:Therefore the need to start blood transfusion.
User:I have got her complete medical checkup done
Doctor:Further the cause of low hemoglobin needs to be evaluated.
User:there are no complications as such
Doctor:She might be bleeding from some where
Doctor:or the cause may just be nutritional deficiency.
User:it is nutiritional deficiency
Doctor:The cause needs to be identified with systematic investigations.
User:she is having cough and throat infection from past 15-20 days
User:due to which she is not able to eat properly
User:i can send you all the reports
User:if you can look at them and advise that would be really great
Doctor:Lack of proper diet for 20 days is less likely to cause severe anemia
Doctor:It might be possible that she had this anemia before and the fasting worsened it.
Doctor:Have you consulted a hematologist?
User:i consulted general physician today
User:and she advised to go for blood transfusion
Doctor:You should go ahead with blood transfusion and besides the iron supplement, she needs to be investigated.
