User :   My 18 year old son had a bout with the stomach flu las Saturday night. He feels better now except that his diaphragm area is still very sore. We thought it was from vomitting, however it has been four days since he was ill, and he still seems to be quite sore. Could there be another cause ? Could his spleen be involved?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr here
Doctor :   let me read ur query
User :   HI Dr.
Doctor :   can u describe the soreness ?
Doctor :   and where the pain is situated ?
Doctor :   what were his symptoms ?
User :   It seems to be in his diaphragm area. Not sharp, just sore. Advil helps. He says mainly left side near the end of his sternum
User :   He was vomiting and had diarrhea all night last Saturday
User :   Fever the next day. He has been fine for two days
Doctor :   does he have any bloating as of now ?
User :   Just burping more than usual. He felt bloated a couple days ago, but no longer
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   there is no need to worry
Doctor :   he must be having some gastritis related issues
Doctor :   spleen does not get involved in diarhea related cases
Doctor :   also the location of the pain indicates gastritis
Doctor :   give him some antacids like tums or mylanta for a few days , when the pain arises
Doctor :   tums about 3-4 tabs would be ok
Doctor :   in addition intake of prilosec 20 mg twice daily will reduce the acid secretion
Doctor :   prilosec to be taken for about a week
Doctor :   he will soon recover from the pain
User :   Is it ok for him to go skiing this Friday or should he lay low for a few days until the pain subsides?
Doctor :   once the pain subsides hs can go
Doctor :   see for a day or two for the symptoms to subside
Doctor :   if it does , good, and he can go
User :   He is telling me hat the burping is not more than usual
Doctor :   that is fine
Doctor :   has his appetite returned to normal ?
Doctor :   is he been eating normaly ?
User :   mostly
Doctor :   in that case it is ok
User :   His urine is still darkish
Doctor :   nothing to worry about it as well
Doctor :   probably he needs to drink more water
User :   I wa mainly worried about his spleen and the skiing. You are not at all worried about this?
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   i am not
Doctor :   they are not related
User :   So if he is still sore this weekend you think he should avoid skiing?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   coz, with the pain and discomfort, he will not be able to skii
User :   Ok Thank you very much Dr
Doctor :   but i do expect the pain to subside soon with the medications i told
