User :   Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please 4 1/2 year old complains of a stomach usually first thing in the morning about 2-4 mornings of the week and rarely at night. He is a happy well adjusted child. He has a good appetite and eats a variety of foods. He does not have any other symptoms except occasional pale colored stool....
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
Doctor :   Does he pass his stools normally?
User :   mostly every day, no constipation, occasionally he will skip a day but go the next day-healthy stools for the most part...
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   On which part of the abdomen does he complain of? - is it above the belly button or below it?
User :   seems below
Doctor :   Ok
User :   but I'm not totally sure of the spot he says all over
Doctor :   For how long does he complaint of the discomfort?
Doctor :   Is the discomfort relieved after passing stools?
User :   just for a few minutes in the morning when he first wakes up then he seems to "forget" about it....
User :   I understand where you are going with this, but I just feel like maybe I am missing something?
Doctor :   Ok
User :   cystic fibrosis? heart failure? bacterial infection?
User :   I'm very neurotic!
User :   should I request testing? what kind??/
Doctor :   Does he have any other medical illness?
User :   asthma, moderate to mild
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Have you seen a doctor in the past for the current symptoms?
User :   no
User :   not for the stomach ache because it seems to go away as quick as it came
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   May I know his weight and height?
User :   42 lbs. /43 inches tall.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
Doctor :   Based on your description, I do not find any obvious medical reason for his symptoms.
Doctor :   Since his weight is normal for his age, he do not seem to have any symptoms of malnutrition which are much common in cystic fibrosis.
Doctor :   And bacterial infections do not present with transient and short symptoms.
Doctor :   His symptoms are not suggestive of any medical illness.
Doctor :   It could be a intestinal colic probably related to intestinal motility which is generally a non concerning problem.
Doctor :   Give him plenty of water before he sleeps at night.
Doctor :   Add good fibre products in his diet.
Doctor :   Watch out for new symptoms such as constipation, reduced appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss.
User :   Ok sounds good- could you just give me an estimate of how many grams of fibre for his age/weight would be appropriate?
Doctor :   If such symptoms occur than you need to see a doctor for evaluation .
Doctor :   He needs around 8 to 10 grms of fibre in a day.
Doctor :   This along with plenty of water should take care of any intestinal motility problems.
User :   ok thank you!
Doctor :   He should be better with this.
Doctor :   If he develops any of the new symptoms, then he needs abdominal examination and evaluation.
