Doctor:How can I help you?
User:My son is 9 months now
User:very often he gets loose motion and cough
User:Any idea why very often he has the problem
Doctor:Recurrent infections are common in infants and young children.
Doctor:This occurs primarily due to 2 reasons I would say.
Doctor:1. The immunity of children is still developing.
Doctor:It might take 3-5 years for it to be fully effective.
Doctor:2. Recurrent infections are essential for the development of proper and effective immunity.
Doctor:It's a natures way to help child build body resistance.
Doctor:Apart from these 2 reasons, as the antibodies secreted
Doctor:against viral infections are short lived,
User:he has not started walking yet though he is 9 months
User:is this because of deficiency
User:or weekness
Doctor:every new exposures will lead to mild fever, loose stools and other respiratory infection
Doctor:about which you need not worry.
Doctor:Regarding walking.
Doctor:A child starts to stand and walk around 9 months to an year.
Doctor:It might take about 1.2 to 1.5 years in some children.
Doctor:The time limit varies among different children.
Doctor:If your child is active and has had normal development till now, I don't think you need to be worried.
Doctor:It doesn't look any deficiency.
Doctor:Have you followed?
Doctor:Is there any other query?
User:My husband has hert his foot and it has not dried still
Doctor:May I know his age?
Doctor:Does he have any other medical illness such as diabetes?
Doctor:Does he smoke?
User:Till now no
User:Do you doubt he might have diabetes
Doctor:May I know when did he sustain the injury?
User:Last week
User:when he washes his face he some times
User:put water
User:he also went to doctor...they gave him medicine as an antibotic
Doctor:The time of recovery from an injury depends on various factors.
Doctor:Usually any small, minor, non complicated wounds heal in a weeks time.
Doctor:But if there is wound contamination or there is a foreign body which is not cleared or
User:on the wound he put turmeric
User:is this ok
Doctor:if he has some medical illness such as diabetes, vascular or neuropathy
Doctor:his time of recovery may be prolonged.
Doctor:Turmeric has antiseptic properties and is ok.
Doctor:But I suggest to continue antibiotics.
Doctor:Keep the wound dry and clean.
Doctor:If the wound is large, keeping it covered by proper dressing should take care of the wound.
Doctor:But if the wound is growing in size and not increasing
Doctor:or if there is sloughy discharge or other external changes,
Doctor:he would need test to check sugars and vascularity of the affected region.
Doctor:So for now.
Doctor:Continue medications and keep the area clean.
Doctor:Watch for the progress of the wound closely every day
Doctor:Review with his doctor as and when required.
Doctor:Have you followed?
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:I had thyroid when i was pregnant
User:i was advised medicine to be continued till my dealth
User:i stopped after my pregnancy....
User:is this necessary to continue thyroid medicine
Doctor:I presume you had hypothyroidism.
User:i was advised thyronorm 25mg
Doctor:Hypothyroidism is treated with thyronorm.
Doctor:It is a long term treatment and most often as your doctor suggested for life long.
Doctor:The dose and frequency can be modified as per blood tests.
User:will this be the reason for me gaining weight
Doctor:Medications may be tapered if you have reached euthyroid state i.e. hormone levels have become normal.
User:can you explain more i didnt understand
User:this sentence
Doctor:Let me put across in simple terms.
Doctor:Your current weight gain could be due to many factors.
Doctor:Of which one factor may be that you were hypothyroid and you have stopped treatment.
Doctor:The thyroid medicines are given to replace the deficient natural secretions in the body.
Doctor:How much one needs can be determined by the hormone levels in the body.
Doctor:Accordingly the appropriate dosage on needs are titrated depending on the blood levels of these hormones specially TSH levels.
User:Can i take homeopathy medicine for it
Doctor:So your doctor would start the medication depending on the hormone levels (blood test) now and titrate it accordingly in the future.
Doctor:As a general physician, my expertise with homeopathy are restricted.
Doctor:Though there are no clinical evidences that reveal
Doctor:hypothyroidism can be corrected by homeopathy
Doctor:a few people have tried homeopathy
Doctor:and found some good results.
Doctor:You may try it if you wish.
Doctor:for a while.
Doctor:See if there is improvement in your symptoms as well as blood levels.
User:if not can i come back to
Doctor:If you do not find improvement and if your blood levels do not improve, then you may need external supplements such as thyronorm
User:Which would you suggest to be good m
User:for me
Doctor:I would not tell you not to depend on homeopathy. You may try it if it suits your needs.
Doctor:But make sure the hormone levels improve with it too.
Doctor:As I mentioned earlier, I am a general physician and can tell you about medical drugs.
Doctor:My expertise and experiences are limited towards homeopathy
Doctor:so I wish not to compare among them.
User:how often i should check thyroid
Doctor:You are free to choose between the two.
Doctor:The need for test initially would be 3-6 months and thereafter may be in terms of years.
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:The blood sample should be given with fasting
Doctor:Fasting is not required.
Doctor:But while on medications
Doctor:it is preferable to give the sample before you take the morning dose of medications.
Doctor:*morning or the first dose of medicine for the day.
User:For checking diabetes if i have or not ....does it require fast blood sample
Doctor:*medication meant thyroid supplements such as thyronorm.
Doctor:Blood sugar test is done for diagnosis and screening purposes.
Doctor:For screening purpose, random blood sugar which is done at any state (fasting or not fasting) and at any point of time is accepted.
Doctor:But diagnosis of diabetes is done after looking at fasting as well as post prandial blood sugar.
Doctor:The current protocols have included glycosylated hemoglobin for diagnosis.
Doctor:So if you random blood sugars are abnormal,
Doctor:it needs to be verified by the other tests.
User:Can i go to any hospital and give blood and check sugar level and thyroid
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:or before that do i need contact the doctor
Doctor:You can get the test done any hospital which has associated laboratory with them.
Doctor:Alternatively you may get the test done at any reputed laboratory with the prescription of your doctor.
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:Would you suggest any hospital
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
Doctor:You can consult an endocrinologist near by your location.
Doctor:He/she would be able to assist you in getting the test as well as starting treatment.
Doctor:May I know your current location to suggest you an endocrinologist if possible?
User:located in Bangalore
Doctor:I am not sure if an endocrinologist is available at Bangalore diabetes centre.
Doctor:give me a few minutes to verify.
Doctor:this link has a few list of endocrinologist practising currently in bangalore
Doctor:You may choose to consult one as per the reviews written by the users.
User:One last question
User:My hair fall has increased from last 1 month
User:Do you have any idea
Doctor:May I know your age and approximately how many strands of hair do you loose per day?
User:which is not normal
Doctor:Losing less than 100 hair per day is absolutely normal.
Doctor:You need not worry if the hair that you loose numbers less than 100
Doctor:as these hairs are replaced naturally.
Doctor:If there are more than 100 hairs lost per day,
Doctor:then it can be attributed to few cause such as
Doctor:stress and worries,
Doctor:thyroid abnormalities as such
Doctor:lack of proper diet
Doctor:post pregnancy changes
Doctor:and so on.
User:what shampoo would you suggesy
User:suggest to be used
Doctor:We may be able to correct these factors (if any)
Doctor:if you are losing more than 100 hair falls.
Doctor:Any shampoo which ever suits you is ok,
Doctor:but if you have dandruff issues associated
Doctor:you may try nizoral shampoo twice or thrice a day.
Doctor:It's a medicated shampoo which takes care of dandruff significantly
Doctor:and thereby reduces hair falls.
User:I think i have slight dandruff
User:not much
User:Generally which shampoo is good
Doctor:You can try nizoral shampoo and see if that reduces hair fall as well.
Doctor:Have you followed?
Doctor:Is there any other query?
User:i usually use DOVE and many say it is not good
User:Any ways will try nizoral.
User:Thank you very much for answering all my questions with patience
