User :   Hi there - my 8 year old son had a physical 2 weeks ago and was told his cholesterol was high and that he showed protein in his urine. (+2), was asked to repeat urine next day. Results went down to (+1). I asked for breakdown of chol and was told to get bloodwork done. Dr said he would also add some
protein in urine test possibility tests. So needless to say we made immediate diet changes and last night my son breaks out in hives over 90% of his body.
Could any of this be related?? For instance, we were told to limit his daily intake to a "1 bread meal" so for breakfast for the past two weeks he has had the same protein (gluten and sugar free) bar that he loves. Made with soy protein and nuts/treenuts. Could he be allergic to the bars after 2 weeks!? Could all these things be related?? I am so worried. Food allergies do not run in the family. In fact no one that we can think of. Please help.
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   Hi there
Doctor :   let me read your query
User :   FYI still don't have blood test results yet
Doctor :   no , i do not think its due to food
Doctor :   please look into other allerengs too , like any insect bite , mites, bedsheets dresses etc
User :   See that's what I thought, he was at his friends house yesterday that had a dog until a couple months ago and came home with what looked like tiny mosquito bites, we dint have any animals. However, the mom ironically made brownies with walnuts.
Doctor :   yes, there would be a chance
Doctor :   its just a coincidence
User :   When this horrific first time occurance passes, I am going to have him allergy tested but am still not convinced that it wasn't due to flea bites. But my main concern is the protein, that wouldn't be related would it? I appreciate your input.
Doctor :   if its a protien sensitivity then your child would have showed symptoms way long back when he is very young , say around 2 to 3 years
Doctor :   and more over the protien allergy will be to a type of amino acids , most of the protien foods do have it and would have been noticed long back
User :   My husband and I are pretty health conscience and shop at whole foods, keep a very clean house and are very healthy and active so this is so terrifying. I want my baby (son) to be healthy too. Yes this was the first time ever that there was ever protein in urine.
Doctor :   wellin children rarely there could be normal protienuria , as they are growing and in fast and heavy anabolic process
User :   You are an unknown source of comfort and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. So in signing off, what do you suggest for the next steps?
Doctor :   give him antiallergics like benadryl in syrup form
Doctor :   or Chlorphenaramine tab ( after asking his doctor )
Doctor :   that will bring down his hives
Doctor :   and repeat the urine analysis after a month from now
Doctor :   let the child have normal diet
Doctor :   and also get serum creatnine levels done
Doctor :   if it is normal then need not worry of anything
Doctor :   even if the repeat test shows protien in urine
