Vertigo is the sudden sensation that you are unsteady or that your surroundings are moving.it is a disorder which can occur due to many causes which vary from common cold to heart diseases.it can cause nausea and vomiting in severe cases.

Causes

  • Benign paraoxysmal vertigo
  • Labrynthitis
  • Acoustic neuroma
  • Meneire s disease
  • Head truama
  • Migraine

 

Symptoms

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Nystagmus(repetitive eye movements)

 

Investigations

  • Epleys manuevere is performed in benign paraoxysmal vertigo to see at which position of head will it be present
  • C Tscan
  • M R I
  • Blood tests
  • E C G to rule out other causes

 

Treatment

  • Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics
  • Meniere s disease is treated symptomatically by placing the patient on low sodium diet
  • Vestibular rehabilitation exercises are also done
  • Particle repositioning maneuvers are done to treat nystagmus
