Vertigo is the sudden sensation that you are unsteady or that your surroundings are moving.it is a disorder which can occur due to many causes which vary from common cold to heart diseases.it can cause nausea and vomiting in severe cases.
Causes
- Benign paraoxysmal vertigo
- Labrynthitis
- Acoustic neuroma
- Meneire s disease
- Head truama
- Migraine
Symptoms
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Nystagmus(repetitive eye movements)
Investigations
- Epleys manuevere is performed in benign paraoxysmal vertigo to see at which position of head will it be present
- C Tscan
- M R I
- Blood tests
- E C G to rule out other causes
Treatment
- Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics
- Meniere s disease is treated symptomatically by placing the patient on low sodium diet
- Vestibular rehabilitation exercises are also done
- Particle repositioning maneuvers are done to treat nystagmus
