Symptoms

Redness, pimples, and, in later stages, thicker skin. Rosacea only affects the face, People with fair skin.

Women (especially during menopause)

 

 

Causes

  • Heat (including hot baths)
  • Heavy exercise
  • Sunlight
  • Winds
  • Very cold temperatures
  • Hot or spicy foods and drinks
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Menopause
  • Emotional stress
  • Long-term use of steroids on the face

 

 Signs & Symptoms

  • Frequent redness (flushing) of the face, most redness is at the center of the face (forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin)
  • Small red lines under the skin these lines show up when blood vessels under the skin get larger
  • Constant redness along with bumps on the skin
  • A swollen nose In some people (mostly men), the nose becomes red, larger, and bumpy

 

 Treatment

In many cases, first prescribe both oral and topical antibiotics to lessen symptoms, followed by a long-term use of a topical antibiotic alone to maintain remission.

In addition, certain moisturizers, soaps, sunscreens and other products to improve the health of the skin

 

Self care

  • Wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher to protect the face from the sun

  • Protect the face in winters with a scarf 

  • Avoid irritating the facial skin by rubbing or touching too much 

  • Avoid facial products that contain alcohol or other skin irritants 

  • When using moisturizer with a topical medication, apply the moisturizer after the medication has dried 

  • Stay cool on hot days
