Sore throat is the inflammation of the pharynx which is the part of the throat which lies between mouth and voice box. It is commonly seen in common cold. Children are more prone to sore throat than adults

Tips for prevention of sore throat

  • Wash hands frequently and well. Use some mild antiseptic solution to wash hands.
  • Avoid close contact with someone who has a sore throat or upper respiratory tract infections.
  • Keep away from the individual who are coughing, sneezing.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Stay out of polluted air.
  • Avoid drinking refrigerated water or foods frequently.
  • Avoid sharing eating utensils, glasses, napkins, food or towels with others.
  • Avoid touching public phones or drinking fountains with the mouth.
  • Regularly clean telephones, TV remotes and computer keyboards with sanitizing cleanser. When you travel, clean phones and remotes in your hotel room.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay indoors as much as possible on high pollution days.
  • Do not smoke, and avoid exposure to secondhand smoke.
  • Humidify your home if the air is dry.
  • On a commercial airplane keep the air nozzle above you closed. The recirculated air can be a source of spreading viruses.
