FESS is the most common surgery done for chronic sinus inflammation. It is performed under the magnification of a small telescopic endoscope. In this operation the diseased tissue and bone is removed, the sinuses are opened and help to restore the nose and sinus to healthy condition. It is less invasive surgery than the other conventional methods. After surgery the chronic inflammation takes months to years to disappear.

They are highly effective in the treatment of complicated acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. FESS is also used to treat non cancerous tumors.

It is also used to close the rare defect in the passage between the nose and intracranial cavity which causes spinal fluid to leak (cebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea)

Complications of the FESS surgery.

• Bleeding.
• Scarring and synechiae.
• Injury to the nearby structures.
• Cerebrospinal fluid leak.
• Injury to the nasolacrimal duct
