Foods to avoid

  • Foods that will cause gallstones are any foods that are from animal or animal based foods. The foods to be avoided are fast foods, oily foods, spicy foods, red meats, eggs, pork, onions, milk, corn, beans and nuts. Reduce amount of animal fat, butter, margarine, mayonnaise and fried foods you eat.
  • Eat high fiber diet like whole grains, beans, fruits, vegetables. Avoid saturated fats and partially hydrogenated oils and restrict refined carbohydrates lo\like flour and other milled grains and all added sugars.
  • A low-fat diet will help to decrease the risk of getting gallstones.

Gall stones can be prevented by increasing the fiber with a any fruits, vegetables. The recommended foods are apples, barley, beets, broccoli, carrots, celery, grapefruit, lemons, watermelon, and garlic. Meats like chicken, turkey and fish. These meats are low in cholesterol, but should be supplemented with fruits and vegetables. Drink 10-20 glasses of water per day. Water will help in flushing.

  • Maintain a healthy body weight: If you need to lose weight, recommend losing weight no more than ½ to 2 pounds a week.
  • Avoid crash diets or very low intake of calories lass then 800 calories per day.
  • Take low fat and high fiber diet.

  • Fats and cholesterol: The main cause for gallstones is fat and cholesterol. Avoid fatty foods, cholesterol and processed foods. Restrict daily fat intake to 30grams of fat per day.

  • Whole grains: Try to eat cereals with at least 5 grams of fiber per serving.
  • Dairy: Switch from whole milk to skim and fat-free milk products
