Artificial tears is the most common form of treatment used to treat Dry Eye Syndrome.

Artificial tears are OTC(over the counter) medications. They are often used as a supplement along with other treatments in moderate to severe forms of dry eyes.

Content

Contains  carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose along with water, salts and polymers except proteins found in natural tears. Ideally those who are using it frequently and for a long time should preferably use one without preservatives or the one with non-irritating preservatives.

Actions

Provides temporary relief

Side effects

Very rare. Can include pain and irritation. But if it contains preservatives and used for a long time, then it can harm the eye.

Dosage

1-2 drops into each eye every 3 hours.

In severe cases the frequency can be increased to 10-12 times/day.
