Needle aspiration biopsy

What is Needle aspiration biopsy?

The doctor puts a needle into the fluid filled swelling. Any fluid material if present, is sucked out into the syringe and spread on a glass slide to examine the type of cells and the abnormality it indicates. It is a less painful procedure yielding quick results.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The findings of your biopsy are indicative of a benign lesion. It is not suggestive of any cancer. But even if benign, it is best to remove all the rapidly growing lesions. It is good that you have had a lumpectomy.
Please do not worry as the pathology you...

She is still in hospital...a FNA of liver was done yesterday. Just a general answer would be nice. She has not been told what is wrong or suspected.

Simply based on this clinical history comment on diagnosis will be very difficult, But lesion on brain and kidney seems to be suspicious. Age of your friend also be an useful information. Why FNA from liver was done is not clear for me, as you have mentioned lesions in kidney and brain....

Hi, My husband is having a swelling near throat in an unusual place. Ultrasound and CT scans have been taken and nothing could be determined from it.Today needle biopsy was done to check if it was a tumour or cancer. He does not have any pain or any other symptoms . I am really worried and scared can someone please help me?
Swelling in throat has many causes. Is it lymph node enlargement or it is thyroid swelling. We have to look for other lymph nodes in the body. Painless swelling gradually enlarging in size is a matter of concern. If your physician felt the necessity of FNAC it should be carried out. If this gives...

I was told I have a 16 mm thyroid nodule , FNA says suspicious for follicular neoplasm , Endr wants to do another FNA 2 months later to test genetics? How reliable are the new genetic FNA s? I m afraid if it is a FN that if they leave it I might end off finding out a year from now that the genetic FNA might be wrong, then this could be worse.
Hi Welcome to HCM
If FNAC report indicates a possibility of follicular neoplasm then what is the point of doing genetics?
That does not prevent the disease progression.
If it is left untreated it may turned into serious problem.
I think you should consult with a general surgeon who will guide you...

My wife went to her PCP the other day due to a lump, about the size of a baseball, situated to the right of her shoulder blade. She has noticed the area for several years, but recently it appears to have become more noticeable. It can now be seen through her clothes. Her doctor looked at it and said it had the characteristics of a lipoma but he wanted an ultrasound done. She went for an ultrasound that afternoon. The doctor s office caled back later that evening and told us that to rule out concern, due to it s larger size and the fact that it appears to be growing, they wanted the area to be biopsied. They set up an appointment with a local surgeon and we have a surgical consult tomorrow afternoon. They said they wanted to do a Fine Needle Aspiration, but research I have done on-line leads me to believe that this type of biopsy is not the best for diagnozing lipoma s because it provides only cells and does not proviude information about overall tissue architecture. Can we, or should we, push for a Core Needle biopsy or is this up to the surgeon? I am a very nervous husband and want to rule out other possibilities as early as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi there,
Welcome to HCM.
As your wife has this swelling for many years it is most probably benign. FNAC would suffice for now just to rule out if any malignant change is seen in the cells aspirated. If any abnormality is seen then the doctor will decide the further action. Let the surgeon decide...
