Earwax , also known by the medical term cerumen , is a yellowish waxy substance secreted in the ear canal of humans and other mammals. It protects the skin of the human ear canal, assists in cleaning and lubrication, and also provides some protection from bacteria , fungi , insects and water. Excess or impacted cerumen can press against the eardrum and/or occlude the external auditory canal and impair hearing .

My son is living in Bolivia now. He has been there about six months. Recently he has had pain in his ear and purple ear wax? The doctors have pronounced him healthy, but he still has the purple ear wax. Should I be concerned. He is in a larger city with medical facilities, so I trust he is receiving adequate medical care.
