My belly button was having pain it was red two weeks later no pain or redness lot of lint and when I pulled out finger there was blood and belly button would always smell no matter how many times a day I shower and cleam it is this serious and I should go to hospital or make a doctor let's?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Presence of foul smelling discharge and bleeding from the belly button should be investigated. Before seeking expert opinion, ensure that the skin covering the belly button is intact. Since, the skin at this site is delicate. The skin may get abraded during cleaning. If the skin is not injured or abraded, you need to consult a surgeon. The belly button is also the site of fistula or sinus formation. This tract can be identified by injecting dye in the tract. If a patent tract is present, it has to be excised.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
