What Would Be The Right Number Of Calories Per Day For A Diabetic Elderly Male?
My husband, age 82, is about at the point of diabetes - type 2. He weighs about 250 lbs and since a hip replacement, exercise is difficult. What would be the right number of calories for him per day, and about how many carbs a meal would be acceptable? We are working with our primary care re: this - I forgot to ask her about the 2 above questions when we last saw her. Many thanks. Jane
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Mam, The advice energy per day for your husband is 1500k.cals per day. It should include 50%-60% of carbohydrates.
Simple sugars like common sugar, glucose, ice creams and cakes should be avoided. Complex sugars, which are present in pulses, dals, cereals etc., should form an integral part of diet.
Hope this guides you. For any other queries you can write to us. we will be happy to help you. Thank you. Dr Phanindra Dulipala Diabetologist.
