What Causes Body Tremors?

I am having essential tremors which are getting steadily worse. My neurologist has done a CAT scan, and blood tests (to see if my medication was causing it), and both came back negative. I'm scheduled for an MRI this Friday. I've heard that beta-blockers might help, but it wasn't listed as a treatment on this site. What do you think?

Hi,

The term "essential tremors" is used when no other cause for the tremors is found. The first line of treatment involves using beta blockers like propranolol. If beta blockers are not effective, then only other medicines like anti-epileptics or benzodiazepines are tried. In my opinion, your doctor will start a beta blocker once all the investigations are done and no cause is found. In addition, you should avoid caffeine and stress as these can worsen tremors.

Best wishes.
