My mother has noticed that her head appears to be spreading and has created ridges on the sides of her head - like a reverse of what happens to an infants soft spot. She is 69, diabetic, with lowered kidney functioning. What can cause the skull bones to spread and cause ridges? They are just at the sides, not the front or back she says.d

Are you saying that there is bone growing on your mother's skull. This is not a common thing. Is it painful. Also is she on other medications like calcium. I think is she has some other omplains apart from feeling ridges get an x ray done for her skull. If somethings is not right, show to your doctor.
